photos from little hands to steady hands during our e-textile workshop at @gardensbythebay last weekend!

so grateful to family & friends who showed up to support, and to all the new faces who stopped by with curiosity and open minds. what really stayed with us was seeing parents encouraging their kids to pick up a needle and stitch for the first time to learn basic circuitry!

we had participants as young as 4!! honestly so special to witness

this was also our first time experimenting with a shorter, walk-in format, and it’s given us a lot to think about for what’s next

if you’re looking to bring a different kind of STEAM workshop and learning programme to your space, drop us a message! We’d love to build something with you ✌🏼

pokok gelam (gelam tree) (2026) a senisini installation for Aliwal Urban Arts Festival @artshousegroup

A textile and video installation rooted in community care in what twists, shifts and envelops amidst the changing of times. A dance to whom and what nourished the soil which existed before us, and how it continues to nurture the ecosystems we participate in today.

In Periplus workshops, we weave individual explorations into a shared tapestry of ideas, discovering materiality through bold hands-on experiences.

Whether collaborating on a group challenge or diving into your material dialogue, every moment becomes a moment of growth.

What is the sound of assembling pieces of wood? How does it look to construct a stool with bioplastic parts? How does it feel to touch raw materials and modify them?

This is our workshop. An open space in the front yard, always busy. All kinds of activities are expected to be seen and all kinds of sounds are expected to be heard.

As the first circle of the Periplus Workshops 2025 is coming to an end, we would like to invite you to join us as we share the experimental work of the first group of international designers who have just finished the Periplus design workshops with the theme of Materiality/Matereality.

These talented young creatives have experimented with developing new materials and forms inspired by the circular economy, culture and traditions of Crete.

Our exhibition takes place this Sunday, the 27th of July at 19:00 at the beautiful Alikianos Junior High School.

Our 2025 journey in Crete has started off with the first group of Periplus explorers diving into hands‑on experiments, exchanging ideas in our workshop set up in Alikianos, exploring local byproduct materiality and potential while forging connections that spark creativity both between them as well as with the local community.

From solo explorations to playful but intense group labs, this crew is already pushing boundaries while embracing research, exploration and creativity.

In the workshop, every experiment and conversation feels less like an activity and more like a living dialogue, with place, material, each other and the local community.
