No, not a Halloween monster or one of my more peculiar sculptures! We are having a new flue fitted as part of making our stove compliant with the new regs. They've taken great care but the room is still very dusty and you can taste it in the air. by @lynnepencil

Interesting morning - fundraising portrait session for the new art hub Tome. 4 artists sketching 2 sitters, booked for 30min slots, so every sitter got 2 pics to take home for their £20. Baptism of fire - my 1st 2 were small children! Very pleased with the results, given how still kids sit. We were tagged by new set of artists at lunchtime. Good fun.

Sunday morning's lifedrawings. Always hard work, but in a good way.

We all enjoyed a really interesting meeting last night. Members were invited to share the stories behind textile artifacts in their posession and who could have predicted what a fabulous collection of treasures would appear! We had funny, touching, surprising and intriguing stories about pieces from around the globe and across time. Fantastic evening. A huge thank you to everyone who took part.

Pose-n-Sketch day! 20 min portraits.
We had 2 props to play with: a 'velvet' cloak and a veiled hat with a feather.
Good fun, as always.

Don't forget: if you want your portrait created next weekend, DM @tomearthub to book your slot. It's £20, but you'll probably get at least 2 artists' work to take home.

Went to a very good exhibition this afternoon at Ikon, a lovely gallery in Birmingham. Retrospective of Balraj Khanna, whom I'd not come across before. Though born in the Punjab, he spent almost all his adult life painting in England and only died in 2024, aged 84.

Back to work this week after our holiday, returning to the abstract fabric collage piece I began a few weeks back. I was initially disappointed, pinning it up and looking at it with fresh eyes, but now I've added lots more sheer fabrics - organzas and nets - to make the colour transitions more subtle and interesting. It's a mass of pins so I need to do some stitching before I can progress further.

I had the great priviledge of being invited to paint at a recording session in Nether Edge's Cafe no 9 last night. I hadn't previously come across the work of Iona Kaye and was amazed by her voice and the originality of her song-writing.

I had to be SO quiet while working - quite a challenge not to clink a pencil or brush on the table as I was swapping back and forth!

I've done this a couple of times before and you get to hear the same songs over and over, which is actually a lovely experience, as they gradually become familiar and you notice more and more of the lyrics each time. Iona's songs are sufficiently complex and unusual that it would take an awful lot of repetition for you to get tired of them!

You can see my new textile sculpture 'All or Nothing' at Alexandra Palace in N. London from tomorrow until Sunday, then from Nov 19th - 22nd at Harrogate Convention Centre.

My work was selected for Out of the Box, the latest Prism exhibition which is travelling between the 2 venues as part of this year's Knitting & Stitching Show (tickets available from the Knit & Stitch website).

I wish I could have stayed longer and done more painting in Lesbos. Such a lovely place and we only got to explore one little corner. So, definitely somewhere to return to!
