23 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

Day 8 • Pray for Godly Friendships

Scripture

“The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm.”
Proverbs 13:20 (CSB)

The people around us matter. Proverbs teaches us that our relationships can influence the direction of our lives.

That is especially important for students. Friendships can encourage wisdom, kindness, integrity, and good decisions, or they can lead us in the opposite direction.

Today, let’s pray that students develop healthy friendships and have the wisdom to recognize relationships that are shaping them in unhealthy ways. For students who follow Jesus, let’s pray that they would be faithful friends who point others toward what is true and ultimately toward Christ.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today we pray for the friendships that will develop throughout this school year.

Give students wisdom in choosing their friends and courage when they face pressure to compromise. Surround them with people who encourage what is good, wise, and true.

Help students who follow Jesus to be faithful friends who demonstrate kindness, humility, truth, and grace. May their friendships provide opportunities for others to see the love of Christ.

For students who do not know Jesus, place faithful believers in their lives who will genuinely love them and point them toward Him.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

23 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

Day 7 • Pray for Safety & Protection

Scripture

“The Lord will protect your coming and going both now and forever.”
Psalm 121:8 (CSB)

As another school year begins, safety is naturally on the hearts of parents, students, educators, and communities.

Psalm 121 reminds God’s people where our ultimate help comes from: “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

That doesn’t mean God’s people will never experience difficulty or suffering. Scripture never promises us a trouble-free life. Instead, Psalm 121 reminds us that God is our Keeper. He is sovereign, faithful, and never absent from His people.

So we pray for protection while ultimately placing our trust in the Lord.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today we pray for Your protection over our schools.

Watch over students as they travel to and from school. Give wisdom and attentiveness to bus drivers, crossing guards, security personnel, teachers, administrators, and everyone responsible for student safety.

Protect our schools from violence, accidents, and harm. Give leaders wisdom to recognize concerns and respond appropriately.

When fear and uncertainty arise, remind those who belong to Christ that our ultimate security and hope are found in Him.

Help us trust You in every circumstance and care faithfully for one another.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

23 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

Day 6 • Pray for Parents & Families

Scripture

“Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Deuteronomy 6:7 (CSB)

Schools play an important role in a child’s development, but Scripture gives parents a responsibility that cannot simply be handed over to a school, church, coach, or youth ministry.

In Deuteronomy 6, God’s people were commanded to love the Lord wholeheartedly and intentionally teach His words to their children through the normal rhythms of everyday life.

For Christian parents, that remains an important principle: discipleship starts at home. Our children need more than our instructions. They need to see what following Jesus looks like through our lives.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today we pray for parents, guardians, and families.

Give us wisdom as we raise and guide our children. Help us listen well, be present, show patience, provide correction with love, and model integrity.

For Christian parents, help us make Jesus known not only through what we say, but through how we live. May our homes be places where Your Word is valued, grace is practiced, repentance is normal, and Christ is honored.

For families who don’t know Jesus, draw them to Yourself and allow them to encounter the hope of the gospel.

Strengthen our families throughout this school year.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

23 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

Day 5 • Pray for Those Who Serve Behind the Scenes

Scripture

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be a slave to all.”
Mark 10:43–44 (CSB)

Some of the most important people in a school may never stand in front of a classroom.

Secretaries. Custodians. Bus drivers. Cafeteria workers. Paraprofessionals. Nurses. Counselors. Security personnel. Maintenance teams. Technology staff. And many others.

In Mark 10, Jesus turns the world’s idea of greatness upside down. His disciples were thinking about position and status, but Jesus pointed them toward service. He ultimately demonstrated that Himself by giving His life for us.

Today, let’s pray for the people who faithfully serve our schools, often without recognition.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for every person who serves our students and schools behind the scenes.

Give them strength for their work, patience with people, encouragement when they feel overlooked, and joy in knowing that their service matters.

For those who know Jesus, help them follow His example of humility and service. For those who don’t yet know Him, may they encounter the love and truth of Christ through the people around them.

Help us notice, appreciate, and encourage those who serve faithfully every day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 4 • Pray for School Leaders

Scripture

“Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5 (CSB)

School leadership comes with decisions that most people never see. Administrators carry responsibility for students, staff, families, safety, academics, culture, and countless situations that arise throughout the year.

James tells believers that when we lack wisdom, we should ask God. In context, James is writing to Christians facing trials who need God’s wisdom to faithfully navigate them.

That’s a fitting prayer for Christian school leaders: not simply that they would know what to do, but that they would seek God’s wisdom and remain faithful through difficult circumstances.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today we pray for principals, assistant principals, superintendents, directors, and all those entrusted with leadership in our schools.

Give them wisdom in their decisions, patience in difficult situations, courage to do what is right, and compassion for the people they serve.

For leaders who follow Jesus, help them lead with humility, integrity, and wisdom that comes from You. For those who don’t know Christ, draw them to the truth of the gospel.

Help all of our school leaders steward their responsibility well and make decisions that promote what is good for students, staff, and families.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 3 • Pray for Our Teachers

Scripture

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.”
James 3:17 (CSB)

Teachers have tremendous influence. Every day they have opportunities to instruct, encourage, correct, challenge, and care for students.

James 3 reminds us that those who teach carry great responsibility, and later describes the kind of wisdom that comes from God. It is pure, peaceful, gentle, merciful, sincere, and produces good fruit.

Today, let’s pray that our teachers would have this kind of wisdom as they serve students. Let’s also remember that teachers need encouragement, patience, grace, and strength too.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the teachers who pour into students every day. Give them wisdom, patience, compassion, and strength for the year ahead.

Encourage the teacher who feels overwhelmed. Strengthen the one who is tired. Give them wisdom when difficult situations arise and patience when the days are long.

For teachers who know Christ, help them faithfully reflect His character in the way they serve others. For those who don’t yet know Him, place people and opportunities in their lives that point them toward Jesus.

Use our teachers to make a lasting difference in the lives of students and families.

May You receive the glory.

Day 2 • Pray for Our Students

Scripture

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
Proverbs 1:7 (CSB)

There is a lot we want for our children/students this school year. We want them to learn, grow, build healthy relationships, and succeed. Scripture reminds us that true wisdom begins somewhere deeper: with the fear of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord isn’t about being terrified of God. It is recognizing who God is, responding to Him with reverence, and allowing His truth to shape how we live.

So today, we’re praying for more than good grades and academic success. We’re praying that students would grow in wisdom and character. Most importantly, we pray that those who don’t know Christ would come to know Him, and that those who do would faithfully follow Him.

Prayer

Dear God,

Today we pray for our children/students. Give them wisdom as they learn, humility when they need correction, courage when they face pressure, and perseverance when things become difficult.

Protect their hearts and minds from influences that pull them away from what is true and good. Surround them with people who will encourage and strengthen them.

For students who know Jesus, help them grow deeper in their faith and represent Christ well. For those who don’t know Him, draw them to Yourself and open their hearts to the truth of the gospel.

May their lives bring You glory.

Day 1 • Surrender the School Year to the Lord

Scripture

“Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Proverbs 16:3 (CSB)

As a new school year is set to begin, it’s easy to focus on schedules, supplies, new clothes, and preparing for what’s ahead. While planning is important, Proverbs reminds us that our first step is surrender.

This verse isn’t promising that every plan will unfold exactly as we hope. It’s calling us to commit our work to the Lord and seek His will above our own. Whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, coach, counselor, administrator, or support staff member, every part of this school year can be placed in God’s hands.

Our greatest need isn’t simply a successful school year. It’s to know Christ, trust Him, and live for His glory.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today we commit this school year to You. We pray for every student, teacher, counselor, administrator, coach, support staff member, and family. Give wisdom where decisions need to be made, strength for every challenge, and peace in every uncertain moment.

For those who already know Jesus, deepen their faith and help them reflect His love each day. For those who don’t yet know Him, we pray that You would reveal Yourself through the truth of the gospel and the faithful witness of your people.

May everything that happens this school year ultimately bring You glory.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
