True strength never seeks power over another; it protects, elevates, and honours life.

Navratri, the sacred nine-night invocation of Durga, is a profound remembrance of the invincible power of the Divine Mother- the force that fearlessly confronts injustice, dispels inertia, and dismantles dark, destructive conditioning.

To transform our collective culture, we need men who do not shrink from Shakti, but actively integrate and respect her.

I encourage all women to only invest their energies towards men who are demonstrating what conscious, integrated masculinity looks like.

As Sally Kempton writes in Awakening Shakti:
"Shakti is the power that turns the universe and the force that awakens us to our true nature. She is the wild wisdom, the fierce compassion, and the protective boundary of love that is our deepest heritage."

At The London Yoga Therapy Centre, we really appreciate the facilitators, teachers, brothers and fathers who carry this fierce compassion into the world, modeling a healthier path of belonging and integrity.

May this Navratri bring a collective awakening- a return to protective boundaries, wild wisdom, and unwavering love. 🌺✨

In somatic dance yoga teacher training @dirish_shaktidas invited us to explore Rasas and create some somatic dance steps. Mine were Compassion & Joy. I love considering duality and how two seemingly opposing emotions maybe expressed simultaneously.

There is light & dark in all of us and i like to hold faith that we are all just walking one another home ✨️

Aesthetics.
Attention to detail.
Why does this matter?
Is how we present, how we represent?
I think so. Cos my Mama taught me so.
Because you matter.
Because you are everything.

Every detail in our space is curated to support your wellbeing journey, and your @yihayoga4health sessions.

No prior yoga experience required.

And in the words of the brilliant @mslaurynhill

“Sometimes it seems we'll touch that dream.
But things come slow or not at all.
And the ones on top won't make it stop,
So convinced that they might fall.
Let's love ourselves and we can't fail
To make a better situation.
Tomorrow, our seeds will grow,
All we need is dedication.”

There’s a bit of chat around language in yoga therapy—specifically whether Sanskrit creates connection or builds barriers.

So we decided to create our own Yoga Therapy Dictionary.

Souf London
[noun (proper)]

A sacred, high-vibrational geographical terrain situated south of the River Thames. Known for its distinct grounding energy (prithvi tattva), vibrant community spirit, and an innate, unpretentious resistance to over-complicated wellness trends.

#battersea #southlondon #communityfirst #sanskrit #yogalife

Waaag'waaan
[greeting / inquiry]

An ancient verbal scan of your current pranic state. A warm inquiry asking: "How is your Prana flowing today, what is the status of your mind-body continuum, and where are you holding tension?"

Easy bruv
[interjection / greeting]

A classic South London invocation of Parasympathetic Nervous System Activation. Translates directly to: "Please calm your nervous system, lower your cortisol, and down-regulate your fight-or-flight response, my dear fellow."

Check yo'self before you wreck yo'self
[imperative phrase]

The fundamental principle of Svadhyaya (self-observation) and Ahimsa (non-harming).
A gentle yet urgent directive to cultivate somatic awareness before your aggressive Vinyasa practice results in a torn hamstring or a blown disc.

My Bretherin
[noun (plural)]

A sacred, unbreakable bond formed between two souls sharing an immediate, high-vibrational sankalpa (shared intention) of unconditional warmth, mischief, and mutual support.

Fam
[noun (collective)]

The ultimate evolution of Kula (spiritual community/tribe). The innermost circle of souls who provide unconditional somatic safety, co-regulation, and unwavering energetic support—regardless of biological relation.

Translation: "My absolute people. The ones who hold space for you when your nervous system is shot, celebrate your small wins, and never require you to perform or put on a persona."

Keep it real
[verb phrase / philosophy]

The practice of Satya (truthfulness) and radical authenticity. To honor one’s actual range of motion rather than forcing a performative pose for Instagram, while remaining deeply rooted in your true self (Atman) taken in South Of The River by @lytcentre

What keeps you up at night? Cos I think we need a heart to heart.

For me, it’s the stark reality of female heart health, a field that remains dangerously under-researched.

As a mother to a young daughter, I demand better for her generation, for my friends, and for the families we cherish.

Black perimenopausal and postmenopausal women face the highest burden of risks: early-onset hypertension, premature oestrogen decline that stiffens vessel walls and shifts protective lipids, and systemic diagnostic bias that too often dismisses life-threatening cardiac events.

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) drives up to 35% of heart attacks in women under 50, disproportionately impacting this very demographic.
Compounded by chronic psychological stress, acute emotional triggers, and perinatal sleep disruption, recently highlighted in The Lancet as a key driver of long-term cardiovascular strain, we need to talk about this.

In my daily work and conversations, I am constantly reminded of how much advocacy is still needed to raise the standards for women's health.

Accredited by the IAYT, yoga therapists work in synergy with specialist tertiary hospitals and cardiac care units and always complementing advice in the national guidelines, operating under strict cardiovascular safety parameters, eliminating all contraindicated movements, including inversions and chest compression, breath retention, to facilitate safe movement.

Whether as an accredited therapeutic NHS Yoga4Health facilitator, or Yoga Therapy provider, we are all qualified in BLS and First Aid.

A photo taken on my 29th birthday implementing a HIV education programme in South Africa and one I took on my 39th birthday in lockdown alone with my baby.

Whilst supporting orphans with HIV, I'd no idea my Mama would be hospitalised when I'd be havinv my child a decade later.

Working alongside these resilient women and children taught me profound lessons about compassion, connection and, above all, community.

Healing is never a solitary path; it thrives when we feel truly held, seen, and supported by one another.

We welcome anyone identifies as human or with humanity.

No matter your story, your background, or where you are on your journey: there is a space for you to explore a therapeutic alliance here, with your safety our priority.

When we support families in the perinatal stage, the societal changes we all want to see—and a true lift in overall well-being—become entirely possible.

Many of today's health challenges stem from poor health behaviors, often driven by the heavy burdens of our current society.

So Heather Mason @themindedinstitute and Sangeeta Mittal @lytcentre are dedicated to shifting this narrative.

By bringing evidence-based, trauma-informed mind-body sciences into clinical and community spaces, we aim to build a sanctuary of safety, clear boundaries, and deep nurturing for those who need it most.

Manageable adaptations in how we prioritise care for ourselves—and each other, with our friends by our side, this feels more possible than ever.

Combining structured morning movement with natural light leaves us feeling so deeply settled..

Internal shoulder rotation and abduction open the upper back and chest, easing tension in the accessory respiratory muscles for fuller diaphragmatic breathing, sending immediate signals of safety.

Early morning lux levels hitting the retina signal the brain’s suprachiasmatic nucleus (our master biological clock) to boost daytime alertness and regulate serotonin.
Paired with dynamic balance and play, it reminds us that physical intelligence is our vitality.
We are movement.

When we down-regulate into parasympathetic calm, we naturally radiate that safety outward, inviting anchor for our loved ones to co-regulate alongside us.

More than stretch, it’s evidence-informed reset for the body, mind, and relationships. 🌿

How do you like to invite light and movement into your mornings?
