🏆 ABERDEEN WINS — BY A HAIR.

Watch the last minute. That’s how close it was. 😳

Congratulations to Aberdeen Township, winners of the inaugural Great Whaleboat Race of 2026. The Golden Oar goes to Aberdeen — but it might not get comfortable. Mayor Altomonte is already calling for a rematch. 👀

500+ people on the banks of Lake Lefferts. Three towns. First responder crews rowing a race first run 248 years ago.

Matawan’s crew — Mayor Altomonte, Councilman De Zaio, and Taron Jones of the Matawan Fire Department — crossed just a hair behind. What a race.

Thank you to every first responder who rowed, to Mayors Altomonte, Cannon & Araneo for being good sports about being captured, to Keyport and Aberdeen for building this with us, to the Matawan Aberdeen Arts Society, and to every volunteer and neighbor who showed up.

In 1778 Marriner’s raid worked because neighbors came together. Yesterday it worked for the same reason.

Three towns, one lake, and not a single empty stretch of shoreline. We are already looking forward to next year! 🇺🇸🚣

Our first event — we had a great time introducing MAAS to so many people at the whaleboat races this weekend at Lake Lefferts! We made origami and cork boats with dozens of families that stopped by ⛵️
