Research is growing veggies hydroponically in random things for a book I started last month. These cherry tomatoes were started in a paper snail, and transferred to a pot in a bucket of water and fertiliser and so far they seem to be happy. My characters will not starve at the end of the world as long as they have seeds and fertiliser and water and mediums like paper. Plus maintenance wise… easy. No watering needed. The roots will chase the water down into the bottom of the bucket and that’s supposed to get them through fruiting. We’ll see. #newbook #research #kidlit. I’m also starting another new book but those characters will be less well fed. by @macdibble

New editions! The Dog Runner out with Booky in simplified Chinese (renamed) (it won an award?) and Across the Risen Sea in hard cover with Miš in Slovenian. Booky released a while ago this is the first time I’ve seen it and they’re now working on a highly illustrated version. by @macdibble

The picture of the local traffic is just for fun because I have got through to the end of the structural edits on my YA for Fremantle Press! Yay! Structural edits are TERRIFYING! It’s the last chance to make the book work and every comment by the editor has to be considered and thought through and enacted on in some way, bc they’re not putting in comments for shits and giggles, I have created a problem that has called them to question something and we can’t have a reader doing that! It’s quite crippling tbh. Everything after this is froufrou and front of house. This is the work! I have now largely worked through the terror and I’m feeling better and a big thank you to my new editor Naama for all your insightful help. ❤️ Now move along you emu, nothing to see here! by @macdibble

Look what arrived from Beijing Xinde in China! Simplified Chinese translations of Across the Risen Sea and How to Bee with @johuntbookdesign’s original cover for AtRS and a whole new cover for HtB! AND internal pics at about 1 every 3rd chapter! Amazing! I hope they do well in China. #mgfiction #kidsbooks Thanks to Carey, Boyd and the Rights Team @allenandunwin for finding these opportunities! by @macdibble

It’s Earth Day! Earth Overshoot Day this year is likely to fall on June 5 … this is the day we burn through more resources than the planet can regenerate in a year. Humans are living unsustainable lives on this planet. We’re not even making it half a year now! Australia overshot on March 23! It’s us! We are part of the problem! Look up! Take action. We are stealing from the future. #earthday #sustainability by @macdibble
