What is Communications?
Participants present complex engineering topics in clear, engaging ways for the public. Judges look for accuracy, creativity, and the ability to bridge technical and everyday understanding.

What is MEC?
MEC is an annual student-run competition by the McMaster Engineering Society where undergraduate students solve real-world engineering problems with limited supplies and time constraints, testing critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and communication.

When is MEC?
MEC 2025 is split into two days, design-day, Sunday November 15th, and judging/networking day, Sunday November 22nd.

Introducing the competition leads for the categories of Strategy & Communication! consisting of our Consulting, Communications, and Debate leads, please swipe to learn more about them.

Seif leads the consulting competition, where students develop solutions to large-scale engineering challenges.

He is in level 3 of Computer Science and his favourite song is Outerspace by Don Tolliver, feat. Baby Keem.

Aisha leads the communications competition, where students present complex engineering topics to everyday people.

She is in level 2 of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering and her favourite movie is Interstellar!

Helena and Izak lead the debate competition; a competition full of quick thinking and persuasive reasoning

Helena is in level 4 of Civil Engineering and Izak is in level 4 of the Honours Life Sciences program. Helena’s song nowadays is Drops of Jupiter by Train and Izak’s is Glory by JID. by @macengcomp

Diaa and Zara guide students to solve problems in healthcare, agriculture, or sustainability.

Diaa is a level 5 Electrical and Biomedical Engineering student. His favourite movie is Chicken Little!

Zara is a level 5 Electrical and Biomedical Engineering student. Her favourite movie is Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension.

Devin helps students to reimagine pre-existing ideas for a bigger impact.

Devin is a level 4 Electrical Engineering student. His favourite song is Talking to the Moon by Bruno Mars!

Harsh and Noah help students to design a software to solve a posed problem by applying coding, technical writing, and project management skills.

Hansen and Behzad work together to guide senior competitors as they tackle complex real-world problems with limited resources.

Behzad is a level 3 Software Engineering student. His favourite song is A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay!

Chloe and Dayan guide first and second-year students to design, build, and present prototypes for technical problems.

Dayan is a level 3 Mechanical Engineering student. His favourite song is Pink Dolphin Sunset by Tory Lanez!

Praveena guides students to choose a societal problem, conduct research, and develop a new, impactful design.
