Congratulations to one of our Engineering Physics students, Elizabeth Cay, who took 1st place at the McMaster Engineering Competition! Her team tackled a powerful challenge: re-engineer ultra-wideband subsurface imagers to aid rural communities in Southeast Asia. "These regions experience frequent earthquakes but often lack immediate first-responder support, forcing residents to conduct dangerous and self-led rescue efforts. Our goal was to leverage their resilience and provide an accessible, easy-to-operate tool that makes their rescue operations safer and more effective. " They designed and pitched a complete solution in just under 6 hours, start to finish. We’re proud to see our students using engineering to make a real-world difference! Elizabeth and her team also represented McMaster Engineering at the Ontario Engineering Competition in January!👏

Placed 3rd in the Innovative Design category at the 2025 McMaster Engineering Competition!🥉 This year’s challenge focused on how engineering can support energy restoration after natural disasters.⚡️ Our solution, Eyes4Energy (E4E), is a drone-powered system that conducts damage assessment after natural disasters and translates the data into clear, actionable insights for first responders and volunteers via our website, ultimately easing the burden on first responders and improving the safety and efficiency of the energy restoration process. 🛰️🗺️👷🏻‍♀️ Grateful to have worked with such a talented team! I’m so proud of us and we’ll definitely be back next year! 🤝🏼
