an elevated measure of prayer
2026

full film and collection available to view on mackhurdart.com

an elevated measure of prayer is a place of worship. it replicates the devotional logic of political internet culture. where the meme is the prayer, repetition is ritual, and the rabbit hole is an act of faith. the work operates through a language native to the internet, where meaning is never stated but recognized. political figures have been so thoroughly memeified that their images function as icons, their circulation as scripture.

the installation does not observe this from a distance. it reproduces it. the deeper you go, the more total the devotion becomes, until engagement is indistinguishable from belief. to reject a false god you must first submit to it. in that submission, the nature of the prayer remains the same.

grateful for my time and wonderful cohort at @goldsmithsmfa

excited to continue this collection as the content never stops to flow

also available on my website is a link to @grosseph.tv wonderful writing on the real housewives of new york city

Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters

Civility. How can we expect it if we don’t give it?
-Louise Penny

Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.
-Roy T. Bennett

what ever happened to ride or die?

Voice Over: There must be more to life than having everything,” the note started.
Donald: Yes, there is, but I won’t tell you what it is.
Jeffrey: Nor will I, since I also know what it is.
Donald: We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.

Jeffrey: Yes, we do, come to think of it.
Donald: Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?
Jeffrey: As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you.
Donald: A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.

Two years ago, I left the US, unsure if I ever wanted to come back. Now, I’m excited to return and get involved.

Across generations, we’ve picked sides against each other. We get lost in echo chambers designed to deepen rifts between neighbors, church members, friends, and families across the country.

Our government isn’t supposed to be this way. We aren’t meant to exile our neighbors over the same stupid topics the news keeps pushing in our faces.

We’re supposed to work together, stay kind, and unite our communities to be the change we want to see. Talk to each other. Talk to someone different than you. Facebook arguments don’t help anybody — approach conversations with nuance, and listen to one another. To heal our communities, we need grace, and we need to let nuance show us how similar we really are.

Everything doesn’t have to be perfect. But we have to find a middle ground to move forward.

The job facing American voters… in the days and years to come is to determine which hearts, minds and souls command those qualities best suited to unify a country rather than further divide it, to heal the wounds of a nation as opposed to aggravate its injuries, and to secure for the next generation a legacy of choices based on informed awareness rather than one of reactions based on unknowing fear.

I’ve been researching how different generations perceive truth in media, focusing on political memes and the cultural and visual authority their images and phrases carry when targeting each generation.

And secondly today we’ve got Mack Hurd @mack.hurd @mackhurdart

Website: mackhurdart.com

Degree show location: the church (St James Hatcham building), first floor

Mack Hurd (b. 2002) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Alabama, currently living in London. Working across sculpture, video, installation, textiles, and nontraditional materials, Hurd uses humor and world-building to explore the abstraction of the human condition, drawing attention to its underlying absurdity.
Hurd’ current work is based on her research into media literacy, propaganda aesthetics, and the meme-ification of American political discourse.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!!
