I summited Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point at 19,341 feet.

It was the most challenging activity I’ve ever done.

I worried about the lack of creature comforts, like showers and bathrooms, and sleeping on the mountain. Those concerns vanished when we faced real challenges. Above 15,000 feet, the altitude hit hard: headaches, nausea, and inability to eat for two days before the summit. I pushed my limits, and quitting wasn’t an option. The hardest stretch was the eight-hour descent from the peak to camp at 10,000 feet, exhausted and unable to eat. The only way out was through.

Our guide, Ben Jones, had 61 expeditions on Kilimanjaro and 11 on Everest, never losing a client. On summit day, he nearly turned me around because I wasn’t eating enough. I argued to continue, but he said, “That’s not how this works. It’s not just about you. You must get down the mountain, and we can’t risk your health or the team.” He was right. I showed him consistency and earned the summit push. He still turned two others around after discussing. His fierce judgment, holding the line even when people begged to keep going, is real leadership. We all respected him for it.

What anchored my respect for Ben even more was his connection to the local crews who make the whole experience possible. He’s learned Swahili, and he knows the porters and guides personally — many across multiple generations of the same families. He’s been to their homes, weddings, and knows every one of them by name. They told me stories of him personally buying them hiking boots and gear over the years, and in one case helping a crew member finance a farm so his family would have a lasting source of income. I love how he is so genuinely embedded and he made sure every member of the crew was recognized by all of us at the end of the trip.

After, I enjoyed my first shower in ten days, and it was practically a spiritual experience. taken in Mount Kilimanjaro by @maclemmens

I’m holding on by my fingernails, but proud to say that I’m mostly keeping up with this incredible tribe of fit entrepreneurs from around the world.

From Australia, Germany, Dubai, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Panama, and Indonesia — distributing carbon-offset stoves in Sri Lanka, creating delicious new whole-food brands, developing AI personas to scale training and talent with fidelity and IP ownership, and turning around a fifth-generation family business with a fresh and unexpected vision for women’s shoes — these entrepreneurs are as bold as they are ripped.

So far, I've left every conversation inspired, humbled, and reminded how much I love celebrating and mentoring entrepreneurs. We have @jossmooney to thank for gathering us here—challenging us to see that health, prosperity, and relationships aren't opposing values, but foundational for a life well lived. The speakers and workshops have been really exceptional. And the workouts? Ruthless. 8-12 hours a day on my computer didn't exactly prepare me for this... But hey, here's to surviving the rest of the retreat, and coming back fired up after a long nap. Spending time with districts across Colorado! I love these people, and I'm so grateful to SDA for making our sixth year at the annual conference our best yet. Four talks, four days, and what felt like 400 conversations, questions, and ideas. It's always an inspiration to work with public servants, firefighters, general managers, and board members who help the state function, and we hope our technology can make their lives a little bit easier. by @maclemmens

Honored to celebrate the 40th birthday of Tre Borden, my dear friend and fellow entrepreneur. I don't know anyone who has brought more amazing and creative people together and brought more to life in any community he inhabits, including our fellow Sacramentan and billion dollar Barbie director Greta Gerwig! taken in Los Angeles, California by @maclemmens
