Happy October! MACS is back in full swing as we enter the lead up to our San Diego trip! 🎃

We’re starting the month off strong with a craft fundraiser on the UA Mall. If you like Jewlery, Body Scrubs, or other ocean related handmade items, be sure to stop by between 11-1PM on the 7th! 🌊

We have a lot of things in the work that may not be reflected here, so make sure to come to our meetings or keep an eye on our social pages and attend meetings for updates! 🪸

We recently had the opportunity to explore some of the the @uazscience collections, lead by @monstros_mom, our former President and curator for the Alaska Freshwater Fish Collection. 🦈

Members were given a brief presentation on the history of our collections, how specimens are preserved, and how to read labels to tell what each specimen is. Then we took a field trip to the basement of BioSci East to experience the collections first hand. Many of our specimens were collected in the Sea of Cortez (did you know the Sonoran Desert has ocean?) and some specimens were collected as early as the 1800s. 🌊

The collections are one of those things that you just have to experience yourself, however, we hope this video gives you a glimpse into some of the specimens we got to see on our visit. Thank you again to Julianna for touring us around, as well as all the members who joined us! 🪸

If you couldn’t make the meeting, fret not. We are open to students of all majors and meet every Wednesday from 6-7 in Koffler 511, and would love to have you there! 🦦

MACS is so excited to present our first social of the year: Paint & Sip & Boardgames!! 🎨

Join us on Thursday, September 17th from 6:30-8:30PM in Koffler 511 for a night of crafts, games, and free food + drink! We will have a variety of different activities including painting, cards, and origami. We will also have pizza and a dirty soda bar! 🍕

This event is open to all U of A students, regardless of major or whether or not you’ve attended a MACS meeting. If you’re interested in going, please fill out the form in our bio or dm us for to help us ensure we have enough of everything for everyone! (You can still attend even if you don’t fill out the form). 🔗

Happy September! As that autumnal chill rolls in (95°), MACS is Back at it! This month we have our last recruitment events as well as our first outreaches! You can find us 9/10 at the @allsetarizona Club Fair on the mall and 9/25 at the @lapalomaacademymarana STEM Night. 🔬

We also have our first social, Paint & Sip & Boardgames, on Thursday, September 17th. More details will be announced at upcoming meetings as well as here. (Yes we will have food 🍕).

Theres an also number of conservation/ocean recognition days/weeks this month, and while we don’t pick favorites, our favorite is definitely Sea Otter Awareness Week. We hope you’re aware of them, and if you aren’t, come to our meeting on the 23rd. 🦦

The Marine Awareness & Conservation Society is so excited to attend the ACBS Back-to-School event tomorrow, September 9th! If you’re an ACBS student interested in marine biology, aquatic sustainability, or conservation, MACS is the place for you! 🌊

As the only ASUA recognized marine science club on campus, MACS offers opportunities and experiences only found here, including behind the scenes tours at aquariums and zoos, talks with alumni and other professionals in the marine science and conservation field, as well as hands-on experience caring for a coral tank at Biosphere 2. 🪸

MACS is open to students of all majors and levels of experience with marine science. We hold meetings every Wednesday from 6-7PM in Koffler 511 where we do dissections, professional development, other marine related activities. Stop by our table tomorrow and see what we’re about! And then come to our meeting tomorrow night to see even more of what we’re about!! 🦈

A little rain never scared us! 🌊🌊

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and chatted with us before and during this year’s Bash at the Rec! We hope you had a fin-tastic time getting to know us and some of our specimens (Mitch the shark says hi) 🦈

Don’t forget: our first meeting is tomorrow, August 26th from 6-7 in Koffler 511! We’re doing a squid dissection as well as introductions for our officers! 🐬
