👾This one packs a punch from another dimension🥊 @ilyssavisuals went for an ocular knockout with this vibrant and juicy jawn. I have been enamored since my first encounter with Ilyssa and her one of a kind aesthetic. -
Having discovered her works through a collaboration with @mad.house_art resident @bohlguy at his solo show titled “Objects May Appear”, it was one of only a couple pieces featuring another artist, and I’m so glad he chose for her objects to appear on my radar! 📡 After watching that gorgeous collab sell right out from under my intrigued eyes, I decided to keep tabs. 👀 The day following the show while visiting Bohlin, I was graced by her presence and got to meet this gentle soul before she headed back home to New Jersey! I was later informed of her artistic upbringing with other resident artists @_sel.one and @jeremy_legge as these young up and comers dialed in their technical skills and found their unique voices on the canvas. - With a fantastical approach influenced by legendary zoological illustrator Ernst Haeckel and the great optical master MC Escher, her forms pull from both the organic and the mechanical. Her work evokes nostalgia from biological illustrations that littered my childhood home, as well as the “Gundam” TV show, yet remains a fresh presentation of shapes and colors. - “Portal Punch” is an excellent offering that showcases so much of what I’ve come to love in Ilyssa’s work, with an absolutely stunning color palette: •Rounded objects reminiscent of plant forms meet hard lines 🏵✴️ •The plaid style background set off against the negative space diamond really showcases the central subject, with twinkling stars delicately placed teasing your eyes as you scan away from the central focal points ✨ •The “network” of dots is something new that she brought forth to connect the background and foreground and provides an abundance of depth ⚛️ taken in Princeton University Art Museum by @mad.house_art

🍍How refreshing! In all my years of watching Gabriel Welch paint from coast to coast and online, this may be my favorite piece he’s ever done!🥥 Previously writing on the streets as Alpha, @omeka_one somehow continues to push the limits and get better and better. “Mahalo” is the Hawaiian expression of gratitude, and I am SO grateful to be working with this legend of the art community! - For the creation of this tremendous tropical storm, @mad.house_art dove in and traveled from the snow-capped mountains of Colorado to the warm hills of the Los Angeles area for a visit with Gabriel in his studio and beyond. Hear me out; I’ve been admiring master Welch jam out live painting both in person and in short videos online for ages, but somehow, this was different. Elevated. The sheer hustle, dedication, extreme work ethic displayed gave me a new respect and appreciation for the always-flowing creative fountain that is OMEKA.🙏 - This piece was created this winter, and while Gabriel will usually pull inspiration from his current environment, this time he decided to SET the scene, not pull from it. After cleansing the space with sage and placing a beautiful bouquet on an altar nearby, he baja-blasted right off with vibrant rainbow pigments, his flow one of controlled chaos. Quick, expressive brushstrokes, reminiscent of impressionist painters like Monet laid down the foundation of this lush stargate. He lacks hesitation but maintains complete control as he hustles hues onto the cloudy gray base. “Mahalo” is an exemplary piece of his portfolio, portraying a number of features that I LOVE: •The “stargate” subject, with its biomechanical, blocky structures and recessed light source, is a frequently visited one by the artist.⚙️🎋 •This piece is a prime example of “less is more”; it has the right amount of fine detail juxtaposed with loosely laid strokes, all laid upon a simple grey background. Gabriel has the ability to paint anything and everything, and he knew exactly how far to go on this one.🔆 •The familiar floral subjects provide something earthly to observe as the portal takes you to another planet!🌏 taken in Manhattan Beach, California by @mad.house_art

🤩WOW🥳 Chris @bohlguy Bohlin really knocked this one out of the park, and we got an intimate look into the process. - One of the goals of @mad.house_art is to create a more personal connection with the Art and Artist, and we do so in a few ways: •By sharing some unprecedented studio footage of the ephemeral creative processes. They say a magician should never reveal his tricks, but for me it is seeing the process that has me truly in love with Art. I can feel the energy in the brushstrokes when I see the finished piece. •By sharing my stories with the Art. Art speaks, and if you’re listening with the right ears and with a little imagination, you can hear the tales they tell. Relax your mind, step away from the hustle and bustle of life, and let your eyes take you on a journey. Allow yourself to feel whatever it is that the Art makes you feel. - 📲“Motherboard” was a big step forward for Bohlin in my opinion. He has been developing his unique style for years, with new features and techniques popping up here and there. This bold beauty combines many of those explorations into one, as well as bravely executes new aesthetic elements. A motherboard is “a printed circuit board containing the principal components of a computer or other device, with connectors into which other circuit boards can be slotted.” This piece was the connector, the conduit of many different techniques: •NEW: CMYK/B&W grids peeking out (example on top left) •NEW: gridded dot arrays •Swoops: double layered, doing a rainbow swoop followed by a second B&W swoop overtop (and vice versa) •Lack of “landscape”, only floating shapes (à la Kandinsky) seen in his “Double Slit Experiment” series •Wigged out gradient bar done upside down - What is your favorite part of this painting? I’d love to hear your interpretation below! 💖 taken in Boulder, Colorado by @mad.house_art

Today is the most important day… Because today marks the birth of the most incredible woman! Please join me in wishing @emilythefunkypriestess a magically delicious birthday!!! 🥳 I am forever in awe of her; her beauty, both outside and in. Her emotional intelligence. The depth of her character, and how truly HUMAN she is in a world that ever increasingly is going through the motions and forgets what is important. She is a raw and real splash of color in a dark and bland society. She carries herself with kindness, compassion, and consideration of those around her. She is the exact type of friend that everyone needs, someone who spends our most important resource, time and energy, to show up. To check in. To be there when we need support. To share in some silliness and laughter. To simply walk with you along this beautiful and challenging journey we call life. To really know her is to love her. We can all learn so much from this wise woman. Looking back at the last year, I can’t express how strong she is. Our world has shifted forever. She has managed an impactful art career, our relationship and friendships, numerous health complications, a difficult pregnancy, SHE BROUGHT NEW LIFE INTO THIS WORLD, and has been the most loving and nurturing mother to Milo… with grace, willpower, and love, despite the crushing weight of all the adversity she has faced. I am so profoundly proud of her and honored to be by her side to celebrate her life, today and always. Emily, I love you so much. Happy birthday! 💜💜💜 by @mad.house_art
