RUINS returns - and this time, it's coming to Parramatta

Mirrors sit at the heart of RUINS. They're the portal to the underworld, a place we reckon with who we really are. As Cocteau wrote "each day in the mirror I watch death at work." It's fitting then, that this is also the job of the artist, to hold a mirror up to the world.

We will not look away from the ruins of Gaza. We cannot look away from the ruins of Lebanon. So we return to this work and hold the mirror up again and again and again.

Tell your friends. Tell your families. This show is from our hearts to yours. Thank you @ntofp for giving us a platform for this special work.

PHIVE, Parramatta
2-5 December
As part of @ntofp's Heartland Festival

Here we are on Ngarigo Country in Dalgety, tucked up cosy in Em’s bro and bro-in-law’s gorgeous cabin, nestled among the most wondrous bush and birdlife on the mighty Snowy River. Just us, Em’s new puppy Beau, and a notebook full of theories.

We came to write, to wander, to bird watch and to chase an idea. There’s real magic in making work in a small town with a big history.

We finished the trip in the nation’s capital, on the lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, chasing a certain ex-PM’s briefcase that kept eluding us. It’s almost like he doesn’t want us to see what’s inside.

All in all, theatre nerd heaven. This is the way we love to work at the very start of an idea, where something bizarre and outrageous slowly takes form and quietly lets us know it might just be worth talking about. Letting the environment speak to us. The “what if we...” bit.

This part of the process is what feeds the artistic soul.

So, our darling thespians, watch this space. The truth is out there. (Allegedly.)

Friends! Since @clockfiretheatre have returned from Edinburgh Fringe we’ve been working furiously on our latest work RUINS أطلال opening @twentyfive_a in October.

What is our heart’s journey when our world is split in two?
Grief-stricken by her late father’s sudden death, Amelia Alyssa embarks on a journey to her ancestral homeland, Lebanon. She bears witness to the ancient Baalbek ruins of the Bekaa Valley while lodging nearby at the Hotel Palmyra, a time capsule of a flourishing yesteryear.

An enduring myth of migration and sacrifice brings Amelia face to face with the question “where is home”? Past and present collide as Amelia enters the land of the dead where a chorus of shapeshifting wanderers evoke a descent into an archaeological underworld with mythic overtones.

Head to @clockfiretheatre for more info! 🙌
Hope to see you there!

Hi friends! We need your support to get to Edinburgh this coming August! We have some additional travel and accomodation costs to cover as we take Plenty of Fish in the Sea to the world. We think it’s so important to take Australian stories to the world and that as artists we are nourished and inspired by immersion in the world’s largest and oldest fringe theatre festival. 🎭
Any donation over $2 is tax deductible, if donating isn’t an option sharing the campaign with your network can also greatly help. Every bit of support counts and is greatly appreciated! Go to @clockfiretheatre and hit the link in bio to donate or share!
Merci beaucoup! 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

Today on International Day of Human Rights, over 3000 Australian creative artists have become unified in ‘Australia’, a colonised country built on the genocide and dispossession of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We, the artists, producers, front of house staff, audiences & beyond who keep this industry alive are calling for a permanent ceasefire and the end of occupation of Palestine.

Over 20,000 civilians have been murdered. This is a genocide. If you’d like to show your support, sign the letter in my bio.

This July 22nd-24th with @clockfiretheatre , @emsmaree and I will be leading our brand new 3-day intensive Performance Program, ‘Le Mélodrame’ which brings us face to face with the everyday struggles and tragedies of human kind. Journey with us into this explosive and theatrically rich territory as we explore the grand emotions of heightened and cinematic style story telling through ensemble-led devising, dynamic movement and object theatre.

Interested? Or know any experienced actors, artists or creatives that might be? - send them my way via DMs or link in bio.

Dulcie Maud Orchard (1923-2022) was born in her house on Virginia street and lived happily till her 100th year.
The thing I will miss most about Dulcie is her laugh which had the power to cut through every situation. It was infectious, warm, cheeky and given freely.

Dulcie was such an important matriarch of our family and we’ll miss her dearly. Christmases, birthdays and Family festivities will not be the same without our cheery, stoic Dulcie perched there, rocking some incredibly out of date look with a shandy in hand.

Thanks Dulce for all the simple but potent advice and for showing me the importance of appreciating each moment. Love you so much- see ya later alligator. X taken in Kensington, New South Wales by @madbaghurst
