The Stone Roses - Bye Bye Badman. The Lemon. The Revolt. The Past, Present & Future.

The lemon on The Stone Roses debut wasn’t just a striking imageit was born from revolution. Paris, May ’68: students rising up, streets alive with protest, unity against authority. They carried lemons to fight the sting of tear gas — a simple act that became a symbol of resistance.

John Squire pulled that history straight into Manchester, and Bye Bye Badman carried the spirit forward. A Manc band channeling French revolt, turning youth rebellion into art, and laying the foundations for a cultural movement that would echo for decades.

The symbol of Madchester started as a French symbol of revolt and became our badge of unity, love, and cultural .It’s the perfect thread between our past, our present, and our future:

• Past: Paris ’68 inspiring the Roses.
• Present: Manchester still leading with attitude, creativity, and community.
• Future: A culture that keeps evolving but never forgets where its fire came from.

Everyone knows the lemon. Most people never knew why it mattered.

Some symbols don’t age they just get forgotten until someone reminds you. And this one isn’t just about The Stone Roses… it’s about us.

A reminder of the unity, the love, the togetherness that built Madchester — the culture that shaped our past, powers our present, and keeps pushing our future forward.

Rose Marley. From the Scene, For the Scene. One of Us.

Here’s a proper one an interview with our Rose Marley, CEO leader of Co‑op, chair of Beyond The Music, and someone who lived Madchester from the inside. Not just working with Tony Wilson… not just being there for In The City… but growing up in the madness, the magic, the community that made Manchester the cultural powerhouse it is today.

Rose’s story is the blueprint: from nights out in Madchester’s legendary scene, to building a career in artist management, to shaping the future of Manchester’s music ecosystem.

It’s passion turned profession Madchester culture turned leadership and proof that the people who built this city’s sound are still pushing it forward.

🎥 @nabeel_mussarat

Rose’s take on how the scene has changed is pure gold. Madchester past, present, future… all connected through people

A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray. Pure Dancefloor Shapes.

Ooh‑oo‑hoo ah‑ha ha yeah…Voodoo Ray echoing through The Hac like a supernatural warning shot A Guy Called Gerald absolutely owning it while Hit Man & Her try to keep up with the carnage. Sweat flying, strobes melting the walls, that bassline punching straight through your chest.

This is what Madchester does best: turn a tune into a moment, a moment into a memory, and create a movement that is pure legend.

Madchester past, present, future… always buzzing, always moving, always ours.

Tony Wilson. 24 Hour Party People. The Gospel According to Mr Manchester.

The Tony Wilson 24 Hour Party People, interview where the main man himself breaks down the madness, the music, and the mythology of the scene he, Alan Erasmus & Rob Gretton helped create. the swagger, the philosophy, the chaos, the absolute belief that Manchester wasn’t just a city it is the centre of the cultural universe.

Peak Tony Wilson energy: part truth, part legend, part beautiful nonsense… and all Madchester a sermon, a joke, and a revolution all at once. Essential viewing for anyone who knows that without these three pioneers, half the music we love wouldn’t exist.

Madchester isn’t just a moment. It’s a movement. A cultural engine built on the past, powering the present, shaping the future. Music, art, attitude all forged right here in Manchester, the city that refuses to play small.

🎥 @tonywilsonarchive

A reminder of why our culture matters why Manchester keeps leading, keeps inspiring, keeps reinventing. Past. Present. Future. All one story. All one city. All Madchester.

“Thank Faç it’s Friday..”

Seeing as we’re gearing up for the weekend, if you’ve missed this…here’s the absolutely unmissable gem from the king himself: Ian Brown — Truths And Rights / A Touch Of Zen 12” dub mix.

Ian’s cover of Johnny Osbourne’s reggae staple Truths & Rights dropped before Rules and our ESSENTIAL new Madchester anthem. Short. Sharp. Spiritual. Pure swagger.

The video, which is directed by filmmaker Scully, sees the Stone Roses frontman’s vocals being played over six minutes of footage from A Touch of Zen – the 1971 movie from Chinese filmmaker King Hu. It’s raw, cinematic, dub‑soaked magic. We’ve literally had it on rewind nonstop all week.

🎥 @ianbrown

Not to be missed.
Raw. Hypnotic. Presence.
Madchester past, present, future

“Hallelujah, hallelujah
We’re here to pull ya…”

Happy Mondays Hallelujah the club mix that blew the doors off Factory and dragged indie straight onto the dancefloor. Andrew Weatherall and Paul Oakenfold at the controls, twisting the Mondays into a full‑blown acid‑house riot.

This wasn’t a remix. It was a cultural collision.
Baggy swagger meets rave euphoria the sound of Manchester reinventing itself in real time. The Mondays in their prime. Weatherall and Oakenfold at their most fearless. Factory Records letting chaos become history.

🎥 @factoryrecords_

Pure Madchester energy.

Steve Coogan picks his favourite Manchester track… and it’s an absolute belter.

Steve Coogan dropping his favourite Manchester tune is exactly the kind of weekend energy we love a man who’s played Tony Wilson, lived inside the mythology, and still knows a proper Manc anthem when he hears one.

🎥 @radiox

It’s a blinder.A tune with swagger, attitude, and that unmistakable Manchester pulse running right through it. Coogan knows. We know. madchester knows.

Unknown Pleasures. Clip 3 Martin Hannett Took It Somewhere Else Entirely.

Clip 3 is the moment - Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris remembering when Martin Hannett took their live sound and turned it into something deeper, colder, stranger… something that didn’t exist anywhere else.

Not the gigs. Not the rehearsals. Not the raw tapes Martin Hannett handed them a debut album transformed into atmosphere, space, tension and pure haunting brilliance.

A rare, honest insight into the birth of one of the most important albums in Madchester’s music history.

Martin Hannett Recording Silence. Peak Manc Chaos & Genius.

Martin Hannett… out on a moor… in the freezing Derbyshire wind… recording silence. And who turns up to ruin it? Tony Wilson the only man who could interrupt actual silence louder than the weather.

This scene from 24 Hour Party People is pure Madchester comedy and myth rolled together: Martin Hannett chasing the perfect atmospheric nothingness, Tony Wilson chasing the perfect TV moment, and the universe deciding to stitch them both up. ridiculous. iconic. exactly why we love them

Joy Division: Transmissions — First Reactions to Unknown Pleasures Clip 2 goes even deeper — Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris remembering what it felt like to hear their own debut album for the first time.

Not the gigs. Not the rehearsals. Not the raw tapes.
But the moment Martin Hannett handed them something transformed colder, stranger, spacious, haunting… a sound that didn’t exist anywhere else in 1979.

Decades later, they talk about how their feelings have shifted how the atmosphere, the production, and the sheer uniqueness of Unknown Pleasures has echoed through generations of musicians and reshaped the entire post‑punk landscape.
