I’m doing a little dance…just finished the first draft of my novel! Oof. It feels like a win just writing it. I’ve been writing for five months and it’s the bones of a novel, but it’s written and it’s there and now it’s time to add things and scrap parts and put the pieces of the puzzle together. This is a story from the depths of my heart. It’s about love and marriage and family and spirits and womanhood. Thanks for being here on this ride. 🌸

Hey folks. I’m full of head cold I hope you’re all ok! A little update. I have recently written a picture book manuscript with the help of the magnificent @esmeshapiro 😍 and I got a little stuck on my novel lately, but the trick is to get back to it and WRITE! So, that’s what I’m doing. Are you interested in learning about the writing process? Do you want some creative prompts to help you feel inspired? Sign up to my Substack. It’s been a bit of a difficult few weeks and I’m full of cold, but I’ve just finished the most magnificent children’s book writing course by @esmeshapiro 😍 She’s a brilliant teacher. I’ve got a picture book manuscript written, ready to make a few more edits and get some illustrations made then onto pitching! The process of idea to manuscript endlessly fascinates me. How we have an idea for a story and then it comes together over time, writing and editing and exploring - a blend of craft and imagination. I’ll be sharing some of my character development ideas in the coming weeks.

I’ve been quiet on here lately - working on personal projects and life. This is a character development painting for a picture book manuscript I’ve just written, learning from the amazing @esmeshapiro 😍

Something beautiful happened today. I met a woman and we were talking about writing. She told me she started writing a book and put it down, life got in the way. We talked about writing and art and it ended up with her saying she’s inspired to write again, and she felt a little emotional. I find it amazing seeing people light up when you tap into the creativity inside them that has laid dormant. It’s like the first sprouting of a tree, knowing it can grow into something so beautiful and sustainable and nourishing.

Storytelling by @allendeisabel is so good. I devoured it! If you’re writing a novel or want to write a novel, it’s a really helpful book. She writes about the creative process, spirituality, ideas for characters, and the magic of writing. Isabel has lived in exile and been through hardship, but stories are how we turn pain into beauty. Keep writing folks. 🌸

My goodness the beautiful colours at this time of year. It’s a colour palette dream. 🌸 A beautiful walk by the river to celebrate autumn equinox - a change of season, a time of releasing and hunkering down for the quieter months as nature intended. I feel grateful for projects to be working on through winter. What do you want to release this autumn equinox…write it down or just say it into the air. See what happens. 🍂 💕

I’ve been writing a lot lately and coming up with stories. Here’s a new portfolio piece - a work in progress to go with a picture book idea. 🌸

I’ve known Katie for nearly 30 years. Our culture talks about love stories with the romances of our lives, but our friendships can be great love stories. We’ve been through the most brilliant joyful and some of the most painful chapters of our lives, always there. Think I’d be a little lost without her. Just want to celebrate friendship and please go support her beautiful artwork. @katiemo.london 🌸

Writing is a strange pursuit. There’s so much time in your head, exploring other worlds of the imagination. It’s beautiful and interesting and strange and challenging. I’ve never had a writing studio or office. I wish I did, but alas I don’t. I’ve been reading books about the craft of novel writing alongside working on a novel, and one of the most common objections to writing a book is apparently one not having enough time or their own space for it. I realise now that if I want to finish a novel, I have to write whenever and wherever I get the chance - a kitchen table, a cafe, a library, in bed. Whatever works. Just brushing aside those obstacles and having the discipline to just do it is the only way. 🌸 This photo of Honfleur was a few years ago, such beautiful buildings like characters of their own.
