I am not immune to marketing or an easy project for some confidence 😅 I saw book nooks for sale at the local independent (@entershinebookshop) and finally got to putting it together!

I love that it has a mirror in the back for additional illusory depth.

I thought I did a bad wiring job but ~~I think it's just that the little LED board needs a second to charge.~~ there is a contact button on the bottom left corner! by @made_and_mendable

A quick fix: depilling this quilted pillow case.

I avoid synthetic fabrics when I can (I just don't like the feel, the pilling is heckin annoying, and the environmental impacts from microfibers are also worth thinking about) but I do like this under a cotton pillow case (and using something that already exists for it's intended purpose still feels better environmentally than throwing it out). by @made_and_mendable

Today in long-overdue projects: fixing the ripped up couch cushion on the chaise part of our IKEA couch. (Pictured in the photo two: the guilty party.)

I hear you ask: why did you not simply buy a new cover from IKEA? Well, because of course they discontinued this series almost _right after_ we bought it, and I didn't want to trust the stretchy couch cover stuff that you see on the Internet. (I am *so bad* at returning things when they don't work.)

After finding an appropriate bit of upholstery fabric at the thrift store and an appropriate day off work, we get it done ✨ maybe not perfect on the corners but it fits, we no longer need the strategic blanket, and it's snuggle expert approved!

Not pictured: getting rid of the ripped-up cheesecloth that was holding the cotton batting in place -- tbh I should probably replace the cotton batting also but for now I just wrapped it up in an old duvet cover instead.

A bit of hand embroidery for some vintage textiles from my mummo -- I make an apron into a tea towel, I pick out the designs on a pair of handkerchiefs, and I reinforce another small tea towel with a bit of colour.

I tried doing mitered corners for the first time on the tea towel, we'll see how they hold up! Might still make another tea towel with the leftovers.

Finally got to putting this guy back together after hiding in a box for a few years -- he needed an arm and a couple of other parts reattached, and I was pretty chuffed that the remnants that I'd saved actually came in handy here! All of the articulation is still preserved :3

I neglected to take any process photos today, but pic 3 shows when I first put him together in 2018, plus a video of the music box that doesn't seem to work anymore (a mystery for another day).

I also did a touch-up on the colours (pic 5 shows how much they'd faded -- I know they'll fade again but that's part of the fun of it!), added a nerf dart to stabilize the butt pieces a little better (pic 6), and as a final touch, I added some star-shaped grommets for a bit of flair.

By far my best source of mending practice: my partner's work pants! He's not too concerned with aesthetics, but I try to do a decent job.

Started using tailor's chalk and a quilting ruler for marking the grid lines, and while it is a little dusty and comes off a little too easily, it's nice that you don't necessarily need to wash it out after! (Although: that is why some of the mended sections still have a yellow tint 😅)

I'm going back and forth between doing a grid for the crotch repairs and doing the seashell-esque pattern in the last two images. Both seem to be effective so far!

Another day another crotch -- managed to catch this one before it ripped through, but it was close!

Used real Sashiko thread and a piece of an old pillowcase to reinforce (much less bulky) and left some slack in the turns which is helping with puckering a *lot*. (I'm also pretty sure that was in the tutorials I've watched and I just skipped past it -- totally on me 😅)

Photos are after a couple of washes -- holding up good, maybe I put in a *little* too much slack but it's still nice on the outside.

Quick fix to reattach a bag strap -- first to reinforce the part of the strap that was starting to fall apart, then to reinforce the attachment to the body.

In some senses it's not expensive enough to be "worth" fixing, but sometimes I like to do it anyways 😤 by @made_and_mendable

One of my most successful crotch repairs to date, still holding up after multiple washes. Probably some overkill -- the side with less stitches seems to be doing slightly better, which felt lazy but was a useful experiment! Also going to try a bit more slack for less puckering moving forward, but overall pretty darn happy with it.

The original thread had rotted away at the heel of these hiking boots (to be fair I was not very gentle taking them off) and I considered just slathering some shoe goo on these, but I'm glad I took the time to do a saddle stitch instead! The red thread is the subtle but visible fix, if you know where to look.

I've worn them out a few times already and it's been nicely watertight so far!

To make sure I was going through the original holes, I poked the wrong end of the needle through and rethreaded it inside the boot -- time consuming, but hopefully not something I'll need to do often!

My partner's pants seem to get consistently worn out from carrying his cellphone -- the pocket inside is still fine though? So curious

Some visible mending and some less visible mending for a favourite t shirt. Tried to make the mends in the body of the shirt look Van Gogh style (iykyk) to some limited success. My french knots definitely need some work 😆 and I should probably look up some patterns for little holes.

I think overall it's not quite good enough to be in public, it doesn't quite look intentional, but it will be good enough for schlepping around the house. I am pretty happy with the less visible mend in the right armpit (left side of the last photo).
