My nonna/ayaya and I are in @unassigned_gallery ants exhibition together! We’ve actually been collaborating forever here are some photos of the many things we have made together. There isn’t a single item I make that I don’t plan with my nonna or talk about with her. I decided to enter one of my Nonna’s first cross stitches she made when she was just married (18!) with a basket i wove. I think my Nonna is a true artist and all her pieces deserve to be in a gallery. She is a knitter, embroiderer, sewist, baker and gardener. However none of the things she’s made or created have ever been perceived as art I would literally not be me without my nonna. Everything I can make is only because she taught me and it’s an honour and a responsibility to have the skills she and my matriarchs on both sides have passed down to me. So this is a little ode to my favourite artist, my original collaborator, Angel face and best friend. She may not have been seen for the artist she is in this world but I see her for who she is, my hero. 🩷 taken in Unassigned Gallery by @made_byr

I didn’t meet her but I have grown up my whole life being told we are the same. She was a very traditional Sardinian woman who was known all over our town as being amazing at fibre crafts, gardening and her homemade pomegranate syrup. I hope you like my piece and I hope I can be as good as you at craft one day, I wish we could have met ❤️. This piece is a classic Sardinian embroidery design including our Sardinian Pavoncella and native flowers. 2. $350 For my sisters. SOLD This piece is made in honour of all my sisters. This past year I have known too many sisters experiencing domestic violence. Sisters who have had to flee, erase themselves, make themselves small or endure unspeakable violence. This colony needs to reckon with the violence being enacted onto women, in particular black women. My sisters deserve to live free and safe on their land. Some things I made recently ! For anyone that knows me is probably sick of hearing about it but my chronic and mental illnesses have been chronic illnessing lately and I’m so grateful for spinning and craft for bringing some joy into my day each day I can’t leave the house ! 🥰🫠 1. Guinness jumper for a Guinness boy 2. The start of something hopefully big 🫣 3. Proud of my handspuns 4. Spinning w my special little bunny friend who’s no longer here 💔 5. Single w fibre from @ixchelbunny 6. A baby fractal spin absolutely no idea who she is sorry. 7. Shropshire roving done on my spindle. This was a fibre we were given by the @spinweavevic during their rare sheep talk last month! 8. A lovely bfl merino batt from piglet and squid 9. Some fennel I grew and ate last night 😋 by @made_byr

I just realised I never made a public post about this piece so thought I’d share. Hi I had this big moth at Howler this year in a group show! I’ve finally brought her home and I’m really glad to have her again. She’s kind of weirdly mixed up with a lot of loss and grief from this year .. as you’ll see a lot of these process photos are taken in homes and spaces and with animals that are no longer here. I think it’s fitting that she was with me in my final moments of places and loved ones I didn’t realise wouldn’t be there anymore. I’m glad she’s here and I’m glad you’re here whoever you are too.
