Curious about B Corp?

We’re launching B Creative, a free event series for Cornwall’s creative sector, starting this September.

B Corp has changed. Our first session will unpack the new standards and what they mean for creative businesses, with first-hand perspectives from local creatives.

It’s for anyone who wants to understand B Corp better and work out whether certification could be right for their business.

No previous knowledge needed, and no pressure to take things any further.

The first event will be followed by two working sessions in November and December, where we’ll dig further into the standards and help you apply them to your own business.

Working on the #NoTreesNoSeas movement with the @plant_one_cic team and learning about the unique environment on our doorstep has been one of the highlights of our year so far. Last night, Plant One chief Carl Rowlinson took us out for a fish forest immersion evening that was both about filling up the nature batteries and topping up the fun-o-meter.

We couldn’t have asked for a better evening – a magical setting with good company, good food including @alltheauntiesuk paneer and cold beer from No Trees No Seas partners @verdantbrew .

It was extra special having our London office AKA Joseph Dodd down to join us in person (he does indeed have legs). And despite a little trouble-making outboard engine, we made it safely back to land as well. taken in Helford River by @madebyleap

SWIM THE WOODS!!

Wow! What a day we had on Saturday. Four of our team were joined by 8 of our friends and supporters on Carl and Simons mad plan they hatched back in January to swim the Helford (or swim the woods) From Gweek at the head of the estuary all the way to the Ferry Boat Inn. The intrepid adventurers all met at 8am for an early high tide set off! It was a pretty gruelling task for some of us! Others swam like the Salmon we’re trying to restore to the Helford. But it was an amazing team effort and everybody made it unscathed and massively inspired.

We spent four hours amongst Intertidal oak woodlands, temperate rainforests and the beautiful waters of the Helford filled with Flowscape life. It was an incredible chance to get firsthand experience of the waterways that our work on the land is trying to improve and restore.

Theres talk of making this an annual event and opening it up to the public to join us in support of our work and the No Trees No Seas Campaign. Keep a eye on our socials or sign up to the NTNS newsletter to find out more!

A massive thank you, as well, to Bob and @angelacockayne for manning the support boat and keeping us safe. And a big thank you to the Ferry Boat Inn for putting up with us and the rest of our group who met us there descending on you in an already rammed lunchtime. The food was greatly appreciated.

We protect what we love. So when @plymsoundnmp came to us to turn the city of Plymouth into ‘marine citizens’, we started with the love.

There are a lot of barriers that keep people from ‘getting into nature’ like having the right kit, access, knowledge or just feeling out of place. So to turn the people of Plymouth into ocean lovers that look after the sea on their doorstep we needed to show them that even small acts matter. It could be as simple as learning the name of a sea creature, having some chips by the water and paying attention to what’s around you. As confidence grows, you might join a beach clean, have a dip or join a citizen science project.

We created the salty scale hub to help people find their own route into Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, from Unsalted to Extra Salty. It’s a fun, low-barrier way so explore your salty side from your living room and showcase all the ways to experience the marine park.

How salty are you?

Stay Salty Plymouth!

Britain’s ocean city has sea air, shipyards, marine wildlife, concrete, a bit of a reputation – and a sense of humour.

People don’t look after nature because a billboard tells them to, they do it when it feels part of who they are. For @plymsoundnmp , Stay Salty became a rallying cry that could connect partner programmes, schools, volunteering, citizen science and public engagement under one shared idea.

The Stay Salty campaign reminds Plymouth about its connection to the sea and why it’s worth protecting, with absolutely zero preaching. Because we’re all a little salty, whether we know it yet or not.

Plymouth is home to the UK’s first national marine park.

The funny thing is, unless you’ve packed a snorkel, most of it is hidden beneath the surface which poses a bit of an engagement challenge.

Over the last year we’ve been working with @plymsoundnmp on a project spanning behaviour change strategy, brand narrative, tone of voice, website design and a city-wide campaign.

As we spoke to Plymouth people and dug into the research, one thing kept coming up. Living by the sea doesn’t automatically mean feeling connected to it. Getting into nature can be a bit exclusive.

So, how do you make the sea feel like part of ‘everyday Plymouth’? How do you invite people in without asking them to become someone else first?

The result was a shared strategy for the marine park and its partners, new language, website and Stay Salty – a behaviour change campaign that’s of Plymouth, not just about Plymouth.

Ever wondered who a salmon would swipe right on?

Or a beaver, or an osprey, or a phytoplankton.

As part of London Climate Action Week, we’re bringing Catch of the Day to Somerset House: a conservation-meets-speed-dating game exploring the hidden relationships between forests, rivers, estuaries and the sea.

You’ll be given a species profile, mingle to find your matches, and discover how life moves across what we often think of as separate ecosystems.

Then Carl Rowlinson of @plant_one_cic will talk about the fascinating science behind these connections and the No Trees No Seas movement to restore our ancient fish forests.

📍 Somerset House, London
🗓️ 25 June
☕ Coffee and tea provided
🎟️ Free tickets – registration link in bio

Note – anyone finding love at this event would be purely accidental.

Our latest impact report is out! We’ve produced an annual impact report for the past 7 years and it’s one of those things that becomes more and more worthwhile the longer you do it – kind of like yoga, or journaling.

Some of the highlights this year was the big rise in team happiness and a fantastic client net promoter score. We’re also doing well with the proportion of projects directly tackling UN Sustainable Development Goals but our volunteering policy is still not getting much uptake, so that will need a rethink in the next year.

@bruichladdich is a Scottish distillery doing things differently. We have worked with them for a few years now on communicating impact, including their annual impact reports. They’ve just released their fourth one which is a celebration of the past 25 years of using their business as a force for good.

Based on the island of Islay, they make what they call ‘thought-provoking spirits’ – single malt scotch whiskies and gin produced and bottled on Islay, using local barley and botanicals, by local Islay people. Everything they do comes from a connection to the spirit of the land and their community. This sense of place and people really permeates the pages of their impact reports, and they’re always a lovely and inspiring read. Bruichladdich’s acknowledgement of both responsibility to, and reliance on, their surroundings is what we need more of in business and the world. We are super proud to have designed another piece of their impact story.

Big thanks to sustainability consultant copyeditor Beth Derry for lending your expertise and to Amy Brownlee for trusting us with your story – always an absolute pleasure working with you!

Once the idea was clear, the next step was getting it ready for the real world.

We worked with @plant_one_cic to build out the visual and verbal identity and make sure it shines across print, digital and physical spaces.

From zines and posters to sweatshirts, decks and social posts. A system that works wherever it needs to go.

Along the way, we collaborated with a brilliant group of people to help bring different parts of it to life.

It’s been designed to travel. To be picked up, shared and adapted.

We’re really excited to see No Trees No Seas out in the world this week, with the documentary premiering at Anthropy at the Eden Project.

Keep an eye out for more film screenings around the UK.

Trees and woodlands operate on a different timeline than marketing campaigns. Early on in the No Trees No Seas process we realised that it wasn’t really a campaign, but a movement that needs to live for 20 years or more.

So the cornerstone of the visual exploration was developing a symbol that can outlive the current moment. We wanted it to be something people could use, not just a logo. Simple enough to draw with a pen, in the sand, on a sign.

You’ll see it used as part of the badge, but it isn’t stuck in that form. It can be picked up by anyone to share and remake.

The ‘sea tree’ shows a tree with waves running through it. There’s also an arrow in there, pointing to growth and progress.

It shows how forests and seas are connected, and how one shapes the other. You can even spot an equals sign – No Trees = No Seas – all in four strokes.
