Thank you @plant_one_cic for an inspiring day of community, action and communication at @cabillacornwall today.

So much progress with the No Trees No Seas campaign in the past 12 months. Head along to the Plant One website to learn more, to get involved and to support however you can. Even better than looking online would be to get out on a tree planting day soon, the season is upon us. See you in the field!

SWIM THE WOODS!!

Wow! What a day we had on Saturday. Four of our team were joined by 8 of our friends and supporters on Carl and Simons mad plan they hatched back in January to swim the Helford (or swim the woods) From Gweek at the head of the estuary all the way to the Ferry Boat Inn. The intrepid adventurers all met at 8am for an early high tide set off! It was a pretty gruelling task for some of us! Others swam like the Salmon we’re trying to restore to the Helford. But it was an amazing team effort and everybody made it unscathed and massively inspired.

We spent four hours amongst Intertidal oak woodlands, temperate rainforests and the beautiful waters of the Helford filled with Flowscape life. It was an incredible chance to get firsthand experience of the waterways that our work on the land is trying to improve and restore.

Theres talk of making this an annual event and opening it up to the public to join us in support of our work and the No Trees No Seas Campaign. Keep a eye on our socials or sign up to the NTNS newsletter to find out more!

A massive thank you, as well, to Bob and @angelacockayne for manning the support boat and keeping us safe. And a big thank you to the Ferry Boat Inn for putting up with us and the rest of our group who met us there descending on you in an already rammed lunchtime. The food was greatly appreciated.

when the magic comes together.

Some things take years to manifest.
Others arrive as mighty heart actions, fast, instinctive and alive.

I applied to be one of 10 founders exploring the future of business over the next year and beyond as part of @houseofhackney Greenprint. With no guarantees of being chosen I felt an alternative response bubble up.

The application asked the questions:
Who are you?
What do you do?
Why you?

But I found myself asking something else instead:

What is the nature of business?
And what is the business of nature?
What does it look like to respond with and in nature?

That question led me to @medlock_tim whose work I’ve admired for a long time, despite us never having worked together before.

By chance, he happened to be in Cornwall for only a couple of days. 🙏✨

So on a slightly mizzly Saturday, with The Lost Gardens of Heligan as the canvas, we foraged fallen materials, walked the land and created an impermanent response together.

No fuss.
No drama.
Just listening to the land.

The piece became:

“Beauty is Chaos”

Part of a wider response:

“Mother Nature is Calling.
Let’s rediscover chaos together.”

Huge gratitude to Tim for saying yes to a strange partially formed idea from someone he’d never collaborated with before. Thanks to our friends and client @heligangardens for the trust and space to create.

And a reminder:
Pay artists.
Pay creators.
reciprocity for what nature enables for us.
Invest in what we believe in.

What do you think nature helped us create?

It’s World Rainforest Day, and I’m thrilled to announce that The Kindness Forecast is partnering with the ‘No Trees No Seas’ campaign.

Rooted in groundbreaking new science, the campaign has one urgent message: the key to healing our seas is healing our forests.

For generations, we’ve treated our seas and forests as two separate ecosystems. But a scientific review of over 270 studies, from the Woodland Trust and Dr Ben Phillips, has uncovered how trees and seas rely on each other to survive. Together they are a single living system, where forests feed and protect the sea, and the sea gives life back to the forests.

In the UK, we’ve lost more than 70% of our woodland cover, and only 7% of what’s left is healthy. Without healthy forests, our seas are dying.

But the review also uncovered hope. When we restore forests – particularly temperate rainforests in places like Cornwall and Devon – we can heal our seas too. This has been proven in Japan. The No Trees No Seas campaign seeks to prove that it’s possible in the UK too.

The campaign is being led by @plant_one_cic, a Cornish community interest company. To prove this can work here, they are planting and restoring 500 hectares of coastal woodland across Cornwall over the next five years.

There are recent studies that also show, by bringing back more temperate rainforests to the west of the UK we can assist in regulating our climate and aid our farmers in the east, where the bulk of our food is grown.

So, a temperate rainforest is probably one of the most important and special habitats we can have in the UK. If you are interested in learning more or supporting this ongoing research work, check out the link in the bio.

It’s been a while although I do my daily reading practice. While I wait for my @abandofbrothersmidcornwall mentee for our weekly walk and talk it outs as part of the National Quest Preparation Cycle it was past time to share some Stoic wisdom.

It’s not what happens, it’s how you interpret it.

Today’s action: when something feels personal or triggering, pause and ask, is this the only way to see this?

Choose a clearer lens.

The message from the science is simple, in order to save the seas, we need more trees!

And by trees we mean woodlands;
The environmental goal of the No Trees No Seas campaign is to use native woodland creation to help restore our river and ocean habitats.
We aim to establish 500 hectares of Flowscape Forest by mapping out and targeting key areas for woodland creation that will directly improve riparian and coastal habitats with the aim to increase fish stocks and protect seagrass and kelp beds.

A revolutionary new campaign that highlights the symbiotic nature of our ecosystems and how reforestation is essential to restoring these complex habitats.

Supported by groundbreaking new scientific research published by Dr Ben Phillips proving that by restoring woodlands, fish stocks can be restored, sea grass and kelp can be revived, and crucially – plankton decline can be reversed.

Burnout nearly took him out.
Then it woke him up. 🔥

New episode of the Mojo Podcast is live with @matt.hocking (founder of @madebyleap , former Eden Project designer, B Corp champion) to talk about what it actually takes to lead with heart.
We go deep on:
🌿 Why nature is one of the most powerful leadership tools we keep ignoring
💬 The uncomfortable conversations that change everything
🔥 What burnout taught him about who he really is ❤️ Why love belongs in leadership (yes, really)

If you’re a leader who’s been pushing too hard and wondering why it still doesn’t feel like enough — this one’s for you.

Fire Horse. High voltage.

Once every 60 years.
Energy meets energy.

Freedom. Speed. Rapid change.

This year rewards action over perfection.
But intensity needs stewardship.

So move.
Create.
Begin.

And remember, even fire needs tending.

Enjoy. The antidote is love in action.

Talking and acting on Valentine’s Day I felt today was an apt day to share this , two Thursdays back at @thealvertonhotel was a proper reminder that the bits we love about Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly only work when the less visible parts are working too and progress only happens in the uncomfortable conversations where we can learn, reflect, support and act. Would love @envagency to get involved 💚💩🌊

A real pleasure to hear from the brilliant @pellowswds Waste Disposal Services Ltd, a multi generational crew giving a genuine shit about our region, keeping this beautiful county going, all year round.

Conversations like this matter. There’s no tourism, wellbeing, or economy without understanding the interconnectedness of the whole living system, and the people quietly making it work.

Thank you ✌️ John Brown, CEO at @cornwallchamber of Commerce, for shining a light on the cogs behind what Cornwall is, and what it could be if the full picture is seen and heard. There is no tourism with those who do the hard work so our county shines.

Let’s have more Dirty Talks, more honest, more local, more connected to the real movers and shapers doing the unseen to keep our region/s flowing.

And Chris Hines, love you mate. Ever since Eden and Waste Neutral, you’ve been a lighthouse of brave, positive deviant activism and inspiration.
