๐Ÿšโšก๏ธ Dare we say it was an electric ribbon-cutting!

Today, Madera County took another landmark step toward moving our transit system to 100% electric.

๐ŸŒž The Transit Facility Improvement Project unveiled its new $4.5 million E-Bus charging station, powered by solar canopies with a total of 448 panels.

County Supervisors approved the plan in 2023, outlining a transition to 100% zero-emission buses for Madera County Connection's public transit fleet by 2040, as required by the innovation clean transit regulations set forth by the California Air Resources Board.

๐Ÿ”Œ The new transit facility includes the installation of eight electric bus chargers and the infrastructure to add eight more.

๐Ÿงผ The facility also boasts a state-of-the-art bus washer to help provide efficient upkeep and cleaning, preserving the longevity of the fleet.

Several programs funded this, including the State Transit Assistance Fund, Local Transportation Fund, Carbon Transit Operations Program, and County Measure โ€˜Tโ€™ Transit Enhancement funds.

Today, leaders from Fresno, Kings, Madera, Merced, and Tulare counties came together in Visalia to celebrate $252,688,048 in federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program (BEAD) funding to expand high-speed internet access across the Central Valley. Millions of dollars in additional funds are expected from internet service providers that will help with the broadband build and expansion.

Supervisor Nathan Magsig helped champion the five-county coalition to better advocate for broadband infrastructure funding due to the high percentage of underserved areas and the socioeconomic vulnerability in our communities.

This critical and much-needed investment will help connect underserved and rural communities with faster, reliable internet, giving greater access to education, healthcare, public safety, economic development and more.

Thank you to todayโ€™s speakers CPUC Commissioner Darcie Houck, Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig, Tulare County Supervisors Amy Shuklian and Dennis Townsend, Congressman Jim Costa, and Assemblymember David Tangipa, along with the other county supervisors and leaders from across the region who joined to celebrate this milestone.

Fresno County also recognizes its leaders Mike Kerr, Sheri Walden, Antoine Grayson, See Patterson, and Neal Haas, for their hard work on the BEAD application, as well as the work of Gustavo Gutierrez from CAO Communications who spearheaded the collection of important data from over 900 residents in our underserved and unserved communitiesโ€”this data was used to support alignment with BEAD. by @maderacounty

๐ŸŽป๐Ÿ”ฅ **VIOLIN ON FIRE FREE CONCERT!** ๐ŸŽ‰
We are celebrating a historic milestone this weekend with our good friend, @violinonfire ๐ŸŽถ

Earlier this week, the Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation recognizing September as ๐Ÿ“… National Library Card Sign-Up Month in honor of the ๐Ÿ“š 125th anniversary of the Madera County Library.

**FUN FACT:** ๐Ÿค“ The first book in the County's library in 1901 was about lumber, fitting since Madera is Spanish for lumber. ๐ŸŒฒ We were also the first county designated as a 'Free Library' ๐Ÿ“– in California under the Library Act of 1911.

The county libraries serve as a vital lifeline of education and resources, packed with information to strengthen our communities by providing a place for everyone to connect, learn, and grow. ๐ŸŒโœจ

The library has advanced its services, offering Chromebooks ๐Ÿ’ป, iPads ๐Ÿ“ฑ, and a Bookmobile ๐Ÿš to travel to rural areas, providing personalized, comprehensive library services to people who may have difficulty visiting any of the branch locations.

Join us on **Saturday at 4 P.M.** โฐ inside Maderaโ€™s main library on G Street for a performance by the popular Patrick Contreras, โ€˜Violin on Fireโ€™! ๐ŸŽ‰ The public is invited to the event. Doors open at **3 P.M.** ๐Ÿ•’ with a photo exhibit ๐Ÿ“ธ and refreshments. ๐Ÿช by @maderacounty

We all woke up that morning expecting an ordinary day!

246 PASSEGERS
2,606 PEOPLE AT WORK
343 FIREFIGHTERS
60 POLICE OFFICERS
8 PARAMEDICS
1 K9

They had no idea it would be their last morning. By 10 A.M., the world changed forever.

Tonight, hug your family a little tighter,
kiss your children,
snuggle your animals,
call the people you love,
because tomorrow is never promised, and sometimes ordinary moments are the ones we never get back.

We will never stop telling the next generation the stories of how, when the world stood still that day, our heroes stood tall, and how the resolve of our communities and our country stood united, because these are the stories we tell today that will forever be the bookmark for our tomorrows.

God Bless America!๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
