It’s a huge honour to announce our partnership with lead organisation @coffeeafrikcic for the five-year Communities for Children programme in Kingsmead, Hackney.
To be mentored, supported and work alongside an organisation whose ethics, vision and delivery are of such a high calibre is a true blessing… And to continue walking alongside @rise.365 on this journey — to celebrate, elevate and empower our community — is something we are truly looking forward to.
For the last seven years, our focus has been on building trusted relationships and a core team made up of the community we serve. The foundation of this has been consistent grassroots delivery, alongside a growing wraparound, holistic approach — from food,social and physical wellbeing, to strong 1-1 IAG support (Information, Advice & Guidance).
Behind the scenes, whilst constantly fighting to secure funding, we’ve been doing our best to stabilise, and build connections to help vision what long-term systems change could look like for us — particularly at a time when that change feels increasingly urgent for Black and Brown communities.
This is an opportunity we are ready for.
Through all the struggle it has taken to get here as a grassroots organisation, we plan to lead with joy: Creating opportunities and spaces for children, young people and families in Kingsmead to vision, design and manifest moments, ideas and spaces that can generate long-term change.
We are incredibly excited to be doing this alongside a partnership of true high calibre: @coffeeafrikcic, @rise.365 Rise365, Viv Ahmun and Jake Ferguson.
Amongst this announcement, we want to truly thank the people who have helped us get here — our team, made up mostly of volunteers past and present, who have lovingly served our community, through all the relentless challenges that life has given us all over the last few years.

Ingredients change each week but we’re gonna provide a week’s worth of shopping full of goodness just like this… Nearly 5 years in @madeupcollective_ & @rise.365 have co-created a truly intergenerational community project based on self governance, nourishment, love, support and joyful Saturdays where we, the community, serve each other and where the vibe is just as good as the food. For every £10 you put in, we put in up to £20 to buy all the ingredients, and that’s topped up with a van full of amazing surplus from @thefelixproject . ( So your shopping is worth around £50)
It’s more than a shop, it’s a community support system, with so many connections, friendships, projects and possibilities built from this foundation… Every single Saturday we share celebrations and challenges together… and leave feeling blessed
How do people find out about us? Word of mouth… they bring a friend, a relative, a neighbour, someone who, before they step through the door, thinks it’s gonna be a completely different vibe than it is . That’s how we keep it community… and we serve up to 90 families each Saturday…

275 Saturdays of serving our community and it feels more blessed each week. In 5 years we’ve not only kept each other nourished, we’ve built true community, watched children grow into honourable adults , seen our elders become more social and healthier, felt our Intergenerational @madeupcollective_ and @rise.365 family pour love into each other and create weekly space to celebrate our joys and hold each others sadnesses. The ripple effects of change come from consistency and opportunities to empower each other. We are now providing £50 worth of shopping for £10 to 100-125 families each Saturday… and it gets harder and harder to receive funding for this foundational need… This is more than food, this is community self governance, resilience and joy. #eachonereachone #togetherwearestronger by @madeupcollective_

There is a wealth of lived experience, resilience, knowledge and joy in abundance in our communities.
For six years, our team of 24 — mostly volunteers — have been serving our Kingsmead and Hackney neighbours. We have been tackling crisis through foundational, long-term grassroots projects: providing weekly shopping, wellbeing, fitness, advice and guidance, and social spaces, all on the most basic of funding.
We have the skills in our communities, what we lack are our own buildings, opportunities and funding to tackle injustice and inequality, and to empower each other to vision better futures. Too often, we are stuck in crisis mode — exhausting ourselves to uphold basic rights, with no fair way of securing civic spaces that would effortlessly enable self-governance and income streams to self fund community work.
Through our five-year Communities for Children partnership project, alongside @rise.365, Jake Ferguson and Viv Ahmun, and with mentorship from lead organisation @coffeeafrikcic, our first step has been securing another space next door to our office. It will hold small workshops, meetings, team-building sessions and a Friday co-work space for our volunteers.
From day one in our new space, we set the intention to joyfully celebrate and grow with our team. Over good food, we sat down and connected — collating the pool of knowledge and experience we already have, the learning we would like, and the skills we would love to share.
Everyone in the team was paid to take part in this “skills audit”, as a way of setting an intention around valuing and sharing resources. It is a small gesture, but a solid intention to model the systems change we are embarking on in Kingsmead, Hackney.
In this Discovery Year, the wellbeing and empowerment of our team is vital.
On Friday, we celebrated the first of many days together in our new space. A few hours later, we set up Kingsmead Community Shop for our 300th Saturday and joyfully served 105 families — providing £60 worth of shopping for £10.
We look forward to this journey and our shared mission to move from surviving to thriving, for all of our community.

Everything is political. @zoegarbettgreen and @dylanmlaw our new mayor and deputy of Hackney Council @thegreenparty spent the day with us at our Community Food Shop, our truly Intergenerational project run by @madeupcollective_ & @rise.365 serving our community for 5.5 years. To be able to have honest, open conversations about how Hackney has been pulled apart, community spaces closed down, civic spaces purposefully rundown by a former council beholden to developers and gentrification, communities priced out and under served and so much more, was refreshing. We are hopeful of this new journey together, esp as one of our volunteers Sally Zlotowitz is now cabinet member for Healthy Communities ( including Food Poverty and Food Justice). We look forward to sharing our knowledge, ideas on system change and how to champion the power of community led initiatives. #eachonereachone #togetherwearestronger by @madeupcollective_

Our Over 50’s Social is thriving! Going from 30 attendees 2 years ago to a weekly full house of 60, with 75 members in total. It’s so much more than a space to socialise, to play dominoes, cards, chess and bingo, eat good good food together, have a dance and a catch up. We share our challenges together and celebrate birthdays, making beautiful memories. Members who we’ve won over have gone on to join our Over 50’s Resistance Training sessions, with aunties in their 70’s Weight Training for the first time in their lives. Some now attend our Community Shop to get amazing weekly food on their doorstep for only £10… and through building trusting, loving connections, we’ve being able to solve housing and benefits issues through our 1-1 Advice and Guidance Service… Everything Connects… this is what building community is about! Sending a huge thank you to @tnlcommunityfund Awards For All and #tudortrust for funding our last 2 years… we’re looking forward to getting some longterm funding so this beautifully community created space continues to flourish.#eachonereachone #togetherwearestronger by @madeupcollective_

4 days of feasts for our HAF (Holidays Activities &Food) programme with the glorious @goingpicking. Changing how young people eat and engage with food and flavours is one of our joys @madeupcollective_ . We fed 20 young people aged 6-12 and 7 adults daily. The first rule for lunch is to try a bit of everything first and come back with opinions when you get seconds of the food you love. The second rule is to try to waste as little food as possible. What makes it all work is our relationships with the young people. The kitchen door is always open and we have a mat young people can stand on to be inquisitive, guess the lunch of the day from the ingredients they see… what they can smell… to explore. We also make sure there’s a takeaway home each day so parents/carers/siblings can share and therefore talk about food at home. Through each HAF, over winter, spring and summer, we see children grow and palates change.
@goingpicking create a programme of activities where young people are able to explore, be in nature, have space to be themselves and grow. It’s a real honour to play our part by @madeupcollective_

Made Up Family!!! As the year comes to an end we celebrate our team of 24 Beautiful souls who freely share our Saturdays to Run our Kingsmead Community shop, as well as our Over 50’s Projects, HAF workshops, catering, IAG and so much more. As the world around us becomes more divided and full of injustices we stay stronger together, pouring love into our Community and receiving an abundance of joy in return. May 2026 bring even more nourishment, connection, empowerment, resilience and laughter. For over 5 years (265 Saturdays) we’ve had the privilege of serving our community. Whatever challenges, struggles and injustices are outside, inside we co-create a joyful, loving, empowering and nourishing way of supporting each other, not only for our community, but also ourselves. 25 adults from @madeupcollective_ and same again from @rise.365 join together every week and feel blessed to do so.
Here are a few beautiful moments from last Saturday when we served a record 115 families with 920 bags of shopping.
Don’t be mistaken, it’s truly exhausting continually looking for funding, justifying our work and watching a nearby local community space that we could activate for transformational change being misused as a food warehouse. Despite all this, each Saturday generates soo much good good energy and we know how foundational our work is, on so many levels. Kingsmead Community Shop is a truly intergenerational project run for and by our community… with respect, honour, pride and joy. #eachonereachone #togetherwearestronger by @madeupcollective_
