Another successful couple of weeks of our Explore the Wild HAF program.

Everything is political. @zoegarbettgreen and @dylanmlaw our new mayor and deputy of Hackney Council @thegreenparty spent the day with us at our Community Food Shop, our truly Intergenerational project run by @madeupcollective_ & @rise.365 serving our community for 5.5 years. To be able to have honest, open conversations about how Hackney has been pulled apart, community spaces closed down, civic spaces purposefully rundown by a former council beholden to developers and gentrification, communities priced out and under served and so much more, was refreshing. We are hopeful of this new journey together, esp as one of our volunteers Sally Zlotowitz is now cabinet member for Healthy Communities ( including Food Poverty and Food Justice). We look forward to sharing our knowledge, ideas on system change and how to champion the power of community led initiatives. #eachonereachone #togetherwearestronger

Leaning into community has been one of the things I’ve been most proud of in my end of year reflections for two years running now. I love all of these people so much and feel incredibly blessed to be a part of so many families!

I’ve also realised that part of me has been wearing busyness as a badge of honour and using these groups and activities to distract from some of the unwanted emotions that have come along with challenging life circumstances over the past few years.

It’s funny because I made a concerted effort to prioritise community so that I had sturdy support systems during these times! The complexity of the webs that we humans weave in order to avoid feeling our feelings continues to blow my mind… 😂

My challenge for next year is to see if I can slow down a bit and welcome in more quiet time spent in solitude. Bringing a greater sense of presence to all of these incredible groups can only be a good thing ☺️

Ending the year very grateful to all these humans and intrigued to start dabbling in the Solitary Tortoise Lane!

1-4pm every Saturday at Kingsmead Community Centre in Homerton. E9 5QG.
For all those that don’t know, : 80% of your shopping is fresh fruit and veg and ambient stock that we buy wholesale weekly, 20% of your shopping is surplus from @thefelixproject (meat, ready meals, milk, desserts etc close to their expiry date). For your £10, we spend an additional £15 on your shopping ( covered through grants) and the overall shopping is easily worth £45). HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE SHOP SOON! LOVE 🫶🏻

Every year at The Duke of Richmond we offer a local Hackney charity a little Christmas lunch on us to say THANK YOU to the volunteers who help our Hackney community. This year we had the wonderful @madeupkitchen join us and they were an utter joy to host. A pub full of beautiful, kind people who generously and continuously put others first. ♥️ THIS IS HACKNEY ♥️ #givingbacktothecommunity

I have to say it was one of the best days of 2024! It was such an honour to be a part of and to see everyone enjoy the meal by @madeupkitchen on the lovely ceramic plates made by the young people of @a_beginners_

Tokenism - a practice that oppressive societies deny exists, but that it has a globally-recognised name and definition, is evidence that it does. Worse still, the practice and denial has been going on for decades…centuries.

Tokenism is alive and well in many towns and cities across the globe. For sure, here in Hastings, UK and East Sussex, it has a beating heart.

We wonder how many other places can confirm its existence in local settings. Over to you…
