went to florida and fell in love with my hometown
i didnt think it was possible, to love this place i thought i hated?

torn canvas, acrylic paint, bullets and foam clay on wood and wire.

“Torn canvas stretches into a body held within a fragile structure. Each forms and destabilizes the other. I come from a long lineage of Americans, from colonizers and the people they enslaved. My skin feels woven from every version of the American Dream, its promises, failures, and unfinished possibilities. As I grasp the fibers of freedom and justice, I reconcile with the likelihood I’ll die from a bullet, clinging to my community.”

resilience can be so annoying.

how resilient do we have to be to endure such chaos all the time?

becase at some point resilience stops feeling empowering and starts feeling like survival mode on repeat.

i guess maybe resilience isnt about how much we can withstand, maybe its about how we protect our softness while we withstand what we must.

you dont have to be resilient to everything.
some things deserve refusal, not endurance.
