⚠️ Weekend Storm Safety Information for Roxbury Residents

A strong coastal storm is expected to impact Boston from Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, possible flooding and power outages.

MPDC encourages our Roxbury neighbors to stay informed, prepare for possible outages, check in on older adults and neighbors who may need assistance, and avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm.

For the latest official information and safety guidance:

🔹 Follow the City of Boston for storm updates and emergency information: https://www.boston.gov/

🔹 Sign up for AlertBoston to receive emergency notifications: https://www.boston.gov/departments/emergency-management/city-boston-alerts-and-notifications

🔹 Call 311 for non-emergency City services, storm-related issues, and information about available City resources.

🔹 Call 911 for emergencies.

Please stay safe, Roxbury. MPDC will share additional information about community resources or our facilities if needed as conditions develop.

Get to know our Community Action department!

Ask our team to describe Community Action in one word and you'll hear: compassion, empowering, transformative, resilient, welcoming.

Each year, Community Action serves about 3,000 youth and residents across Roxbury, Dorchester, and surrounding Boston neighborhoods. Our work spans youth and workforce development, including paid internships, job-readiness training, hands-on workshops like audiovisual journalism, and the Opportunity Employment Program, which helps young adults ages 18–25 earn industry certifications and build long-term careers. We also support the whole community through health access programs, nutrition education, community meals, and one-on-one mental health support. Our civic engagement programs help residents advocate for themselves and lead change, and our team connects residents across MPDC properties to resources from employment to continuing education.

With deep sadness, Madison Park Development Corporation mourns the passing of Yhinny Matos.

In her 8 years at MPDC, Yhinny was a tireless advocate, youth leader, mentor, and collaborator whose impact reached far beyond her title. Through her work with young people, she helped create pathways to employment, education, personal growth, and opportunity. She believed deeply in the potential of every young person and never stopped showing up for them.

Yhinny brought extraordinary energy, dedication, creativity, and care to everything she did. She was a mentor, advocate, and friend who strengthened partnerships, helped advance youth-focused initiatives, and contributed to the growth of programs that continue to support our work. Her commitment was more than a profession — it was a reflection of her love for Roxbury and the people who call it home.

She was also a vibrant presence in Boston’s dance community. Her passion, artistry, and joy on the dance floor were inseparable from the spirit she brought to her work: bold, generous, inspiring, and full of life.

Yhinny’s legacy lives on through the young people she touched, the doors she helped open, and the countless lives she inspired throughout Boston and beyond.

We extend our deepest condolences to Yhinny’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May we honor her memory by continuing to invest in young people, build community, and carry forward the work she cared about so deeply.

Rest in power, Yhinny. Your light, energy, and legacy will remain with us 🕊️ by @madisonparkdc
