“Am I the only one that needs help?” “I can’t feel anything.” “Dear Beautiful Girl, know your worth.” “Fuck. I’m lonely.” “Hi Grandpa. Do you know I miss you? Please come to me in my dreams.”

The first time I stumbled upon The Strangers Project, I was surprised by what poured out of my soul and onto the page. I wept and wept. I had no idea I had such a deep need to be witnessed in my grief and fear. Reading what others wrote gave me courage. Courage to be seen and courage to carry on. I’ve often thought back to that moment and how much it meant to me to have such a beautiful place find me at a time when I needed it most.

In the Strangers Project, Brandon has created something remarkably breathtaking. Reading through page after page after page— the highs and lows, the power, the vulnerability, the souls cracked open with grief and those begging to be seen— is a profoundly special experience.

If you ever find yourself near the Oculus in NYC you absolutely must pop in for a quiet moment. You might even feel called to share something from your own life for other strangers to witness. by @madrikich

Swedish Sunday on the sea! by @madrikich

It’s no secret that I am obsessed with this boy. I call him my stardust soulmate. I recognized him with the kind of knowing that comes from being born of the same star stuff, his likeness etched into my soul at the foundation of the universe. Lucky? Fortunate? Blessed? No, these are not the words to describe how I feel at the supreme delight in walking this planet together at this most improbable moment in time. Those are not the words because there are no words. I wish there was some way to sum up the full measure of my love for this man, but instead I just sit with this stardust soulmate of mine quietly, contentedly watching as the beauty of time passes us by because I know no better way to show the fullness of love than to share our short time on this planet together. I love you B. @bmsikich

Stories are potent grief medicine! How a recent body blessing experience reminded me of the power of stories to help us process our grief.
