So yesterday, @madu1966 & @sk8empress won the first UK Ballroom Skating competion - what a pleasure and a privilege it was.

Madu and I put in so much practise (which we thoroughly enjoyed) just to be at a level where we could compete (especially after coming back to skating from injury).

The aim was to have fun and do ourselves proud first - anything on top of that would be a bonus.

This first elegance gala and friendly competition really brought out the best in the ballroom community. So many people put in the work and displayed their A game.

It was a wonderful event from start to finish (and hear tell that there will be more events diwn the line).

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to @london_ballroom_skating @nikkiandandrew & @leowhite1wheel for putting their time, energy, and love into this event - for all of us.

It was so amazing to see skaters inspired and try ballroom skating for the very first time - that is the best part.

Coming back to the gorgeous @stanelyarts again (on skates) was a true blessing.

Thank you to @mademoiselle_mizuyo for capturing the moment for us so well.

We had so much fun from start to finish at the 60 th year @nhcarnivalldn parade.

Everybody was is great spirits as we made our way over to the parade start point. The Samba dancers @imperiodarainhaoficial the skaters @nikkiandandrew @irokfaceandbodyart @lioness_jules_sk8s @madu1966 @sk8empress @liza_2020 and Ken.

It was a surprise to bump into my son as he set up with work colleagues (we thought we'd be in different locations).

After the parade, we hung out by our meeting point to soak up the vibes. We had a lot of fun - good music, good food (Andrew can REALLY cook - believe!) drinks and vibes.

What a day to remember. 🔥

We had an absolutely wonderful time today @nhcarnivalldn - Ken @london_ballroom_skating
@sk8empress @irokfaceandbodyart @madu1966
@lioness_jules_sk8s @liza_2020

We were once again fortunate enough to be invited to lead out the amazing Samba School @imperiodarainhaoficial 🔥

On skates, we recreated the rich culture of Leme beach - Rio De Jeneiro.

The hugely talented Samba school followed on with their fantastic Samba ensemble and Caiporera display - in multi-colour.

This has become such a great way to experience Carnival. We already can't wait to do it again!

Ballroom skating moves.
Same side hold. Outside turn with a straight arm. Lead turns simultaneously in the same direction as the follower. Lead switches hands behind his back & continues full turn.

@madu1966 nailed it💪🏾

So this was one of our ballroom training sessions with @ldn_ballroom_skating as we drew closer to the Carnival event.

By this time, @nikkiandandrew had smoothed out many of our rough edges. We were much more relaxed, in sync, and that bit more confident by now.

Then, we started going off the beaten track ...getting zesty with the moves (that were in no way, shape, or form related to the #nottinghillcarnival2025 brief! 🤣 We did, however, have fun trying out those more moves.

Ww had pure good joke every time we met all. These were some good moments.

We're looking forward to @madu1966 return, so we can continue with the zestyness!

A lil throw back to when @madu1966 and I were in the early moments of skating together as a ballroom pair (in preparation for the Nottinghill Carnival procession).

We were drilling the basics and eventually able to start carving out a nice flow under the wonderful guidance of @ldn_ballroom_skating @ldn_ballroom_skating We're both really grateful for just how much they poured into us, helping us to develop the foundation skills and love for this skating style (love'em both).

Michael is currently recovering from an injury that he picked up soon after the Carnival event. He is fortunately doing well. Still, we send him healing vibes to see him through his recovery. Rest up and heal as we have unfinished ballroom business to tend to my friend. ☺️🫶🏾

When @skatebaselondon hit us up about skating with a Brazilian band at Notting Hill Carnival @imperiodarainhaoficia ,it was an easy yes! 🙌🏾

Our routine paid tribute to the Windrush generation—stepping off the boat into the UK, dressed in their best, carrying with them resilience, unity, and cultural innovation. We wanted to capture that feeling of joy and new beginnings, expressed through U-formation footwork, spins, and twirls.

This journey was filled with belly laughs, creativity, dedication and new bonds❤️. Nuff love to the ballroom fam @sk8empress, @madu1966 , @lioness_jules_sk8s , Ken and our behind the scenes member @liza_2020.

Big love to the gorgeous @ilaleila for making sure all the costumes brought the vision to life. Huge thanks to @sambaderainha_ for your vision and for giving us the freedom to create. Shout out to the musicians @mestre_brisnapzzz and @alextalbot_city, can't stop humming Get up, Stand up!

Finally a shout out to @leowhite1wheel your ballroom videos inspired us to begin this journey… and we’re still trying to be as smooth as you 😊

A ride that will be remembered fondly. 🚢🎶🛼

Had to share the before and after carni vibes (with @ldn_ballroom_skating @nikkiandandrew @lioness_jules @madu1966 @skatebaselondon & Ken) that we were catching in abundance.

We absolutely loved our 1950's #windrush costumes @ilaleila 🔥 you also really took good care of us all. 🥰

@sambaderainha_ brought us together for this wonderful project, but now you're my people, and I am already looking forward to many more vibsey adventures with you all.

@mestre_bris and @alextalbot_city you did an amazing job with putting the music together (and keeping so many musicians on point). I so love to be in the presence of a great live drum ensemble, and yours was just that.

#nottinghillcarnival2025 will be remembered for so many great reasons. Big up @nhcarnivalldn for choosing our @imperiodarainhaoficial family as winners - the moment was liquid gold! 🏆

Shout out to @bbcnews for spotlighting us. It was such a nice surprise!

Also, we'd like to say a big thank you to @olutimtim for taking so many amazing photos - we appreciate you.
