I DON’T HAVE A JOB. I HAVE PURPOSE. THE END! 🛠️🔥

Since returning to our whenua, our haukāinga, life has pushed me into spaces I never imagined exploring.

From Māori governance, whenua Māori, councils and legal systems to building, plumbing, flooring, foundations and sustainable off-grid living. On the tools, off the tools, and sometimes learning the HARD way! 😂

Has it been easy? HECK NO!

But the skills, knowledge, resilience and growth have been priceless. What began as a personal whenua journey has become something much bigger.

Not just what I can build today, but what these experiences might help others build tomorrow. For our whānau, our communities and generations yet to come.

People often ask what I do for work.

My answer? I don’t have a job. I HAVE PURPOSE! 😎

And purpose has taken me everywhere. From New York, international stages, Versace hotels, Sony and Warner Bros studios to remote communities, woolsheds, construction sites, trenches and the middle of nowhere!

Different worlds. Different lessons. NEVER wasted experiences.

I share plenty, but there’s so much you don’t see. And often, it’s the UNSEEN MAHI that matters most.

The early mornings, relentless legwork, risk assessments, mistakes, setbacks, heavy lifting, aches, pains and starting over.

People see glimpses of the journey and eventually the finished product. But it’s everything in between that builds character, resilience and turns vision into reality.

Every skill, connection and challenge is another piece of a much bigger picture. One I’m building, one lesson and one kaupapa at a time.

This little clip is just a tiny glimpse into another part of my world, contributing to purpose projects I’ll share more about in due time.

20 years later - Notice U - First live performance & jam since we recorded this tune at 88.6 mai fm with @mupivachohaia aka Wiremu Hohaia - Back then I was stuck in a label & Management in which case wouldn’t allow me to be mentioned or be in the video, which in fact taught me a lot about ever signing with anyone ever again after that! Since then it was crazy seeing how this waiata took on its own life & became stories for soo many & to this day it still buzzes me out. Thank you @mupivachohaia for pulling up 20 years later to gift this performance to my young man @w.y.2.k who is now 21 years 🥹🥰👌🏾🙏🏾. Tino Hari koa taku ngakau mo tenei taonga e hoa. 🫶🏾

These special moments took me back to a place of healing and reflection.

It was an honour and a great privilege to return to tukutuku — a taonga that I first learned in this very room when I was a child at Kōhanga Reo. This is where I grew up, learning te reo Māori and tukutuku under the care and knowledge of our tūpuna.

More than thirty years later, I have returned to that same place to learn these taonga tuku iho once again, alongside Mum, Dad, my aunties, uncles and cousins, for our Ngāti Kaiaua room at our marae, Tauranganui.

This truly felt like a return through whakapapa and wairua — a circle being connected again. It is a moment I will never forget.

A huge mihi to Jamie and Matua Hemi for their teaching, their care, and for trusting us to place our own mauri into these tukutuku panels. These taonga will remain within Ngāti Kaiaua for many years to come, continuing to carry the hands, stories, whakapapa and mauri of those who created them.

This experience opened something deeper within me, and it also brought a kind of healing that I didn’t even realise I needed.

It has reignited a fire within me — to go deeper into our taonga tuku iho, to explore again the practices of our tūpuna, and the things that flow naturally within us.

Even though they were only moments in time, those moments are taonga.

I am deeply grateful for this experience, for the hands that worked together, for the knowledge that was passed down, for the whakapapa that binds us, and for the mauri that we have left within these tukutuku.

**When we return to our foundations, the spirit is restored.
