In 2019, while I was still serving in another government agency, I found myself in Cotabato City to witness and monitor the historic plebiscite that would pave the way for the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and a parliamentary form of government in the region.

I still remember that day vividly, the blaring sirens, helicopters hovering overhead, the heavy presence of security forces, and military tanks along our route. It was a historic moment, but it also reminded me of the realities and risks that often accompany our work in areas where peace has been hard-earned.

After that experience, I remember telling myself that perhaps I would never again find myself working in a high-risk situation like that.

And yet, here I am, seven years later, now serving in another government agency, once again entrusted with a role in another historic moment for the Bangsamoro, monitoring the first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election.

There is something deeply meaningful about coming full circle. In 2019, I witnessed people cast their votes to help determine the political future of the Bangsamoro. Tomorrow, I will witness them exercise that same democratic right as they choose the representatives who will serve them in the Bangsamoro Parliament.

Tonight, more than anything, I pray for peace.
I pray that every voter will be able to leave home, go to the polling precinct, cast their vote, and return safely to their family. May everyone be able to exercise their right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.

I pray for the safety of our voters, election workers, security personnel, observers, volunteers, fellow government workers, and everyone who will be on the ground tomorrow.

May this historic election be remembered not for fear or violence, but for the courage of people choosing their future through the ballot.

I pray for BARMM.I pray for Mindanao.I pray for a peaceful election tomorrow. 🤲🕊️ taken in Cotabato City, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao by @maftabucao

You were only 16 years old when cancer knocked on our door. I nursed you for six months, cleaned your tube to help you breathe, fed you through the NGT, changed your diapers and helped you clean up, hummed you a song until you fell asleep, accompanied you in the radiation room and held your hand whenever you were afraid. I prayed with you and begged God to spare you from that cancer.

Today marks your 9th year in heaven, and I know you’re filling heaven with your music. I can’t say I miss our adventures together, because those were hospital hopping and endless doctor’s appointments. But your ate misses that stubborn little boy, our endless little fights growing up. I’m very grateful that God allowed me to show you how much I care for you during your last months here on earth. That your ate loves you so much.

I miss you, our little drummer boy. I miss you every day, but I miss you more today. by @maftabucao

It's been 12 years since typhoon Yolanda took you away from us, Kuya Doods! I still pray that God takes good care of you there in heaven, just as you took care of us here on earth. I still cry whenever I remember your last words, your habilin to me, na hawakan ko mga kapatid natin at lalabas kayo ni Melord para maghanap ng tali para kung kunin man tayo ng tubig dagat na pumasok sa bahay natin, sama-sama tayo. You never returned, but you sacrificed yourself para ibalik si Melord samin.

In a few days, we’ll be marking the 9th death anniversary of Melord. Your sacrifice gave us a few more years with him, and for that, we are forever grateful.

Another supertyphoon is on its way here in Luzon. Please watch over and guide us, your siblings here in Metro Manila.

We love you Kuya! I miss you everyday, but I miss you more today! by @maftabucao

Baguio – the place where you’ll hit 10k+ steps without even trying. All those stairs and slopes almost gave me a heart attack!

I went there with my sibs to accompany our mom to her seminar. We took the 12:30 AM express bus and arrived at 5 AM, welcomed by the freezing early-morning breeze ❄️. Since it was our brother’s first time, we went on a day tour right away. By 9 PM, we were already on the express bus back to Metro Manila. One day lang pero my body feels like I was gone for a week! 🥴🚍🌲 by @maftabucao

Took on a practice test to sharpen my mental math. No calculator, no pen, no paper! Just solving each question in my head while walking, chatting with my sister, and crammed inside the MRT. 😁
