A while back @poetsorg sent me a v cool but not v easy prompt to write a duplex based on Langston Hughes’ “Let America Be America Again.” Here’s the result, which just came out in their magazine American Poets. by @mag.gabbert

I focus mostly on my writing here, as y’all know (+ medieval fantasy cosplay?), but in real life I sincerely give as much as I can to my students. They mean the world to me. So when I received the annual @aglspworld faculty award this year—having been up against faculty from Johns Hopkins, Rice, Stanford, and many other incredible schools!!—it was especially moving to learn that my students and colleagues had taken the time to nominate me and write letters of support. What a gift! And in a time of globally negative bandwidth!! I feel v lucky and loved. Thank you, friends 💗

FUN FACT: if you’re wondering why this came from the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs, it’s bc I actually don’t teach in an English Dept! I teach grad students in SMU’s Department of Human-Centered Interdisciplinary Studies ( @hcis.smu ). It’s a pretty cool gig. So, those of you who are Dallas-based, lmk if you’re interested in a customizable masters or doctoral-level liberal studies degree! by @mag.gabbert

It’s a bittersweet privilege to have this new poem of mine included in the very last issue of Asheville Poetry Review. I’ve wanted/tried to write about the Dyatlov Pass “incident” for a long time, & this is what finally came out. by @mag.gabbert
