Marked the one year anniversary of moving to NY and the 13 year anniversary of meeting Nile. Brooklyn is dripping with flowers, the playground is hopping, and the grass is greening.

A few warm days, a bunch of work days. Back to the playground. Not pictured: hours and hours spent navigating the stupid medical system (new insurance) and, you know, everything. (gesticulates wildly)

F E B R U A R Y

If January was 38473929 days long, February was a blur. (Which is why this update is nearly a week late 🙃) Things are going to hell in a lot of other ways so I’m just cashing in happy checks while we can.

1. It was so cold and snowy Odin actually tolerated a sweater AND boots. 🐕‍🦺
2. The Calder exhibit at the Whitney 🎡
3. Valentine of my dreams 💕
4. Feb break in New England 🚄
5. Painted a lot of backdrops 🖌️
6. More sledding 🛷
7. “The Flying Ace/5 Star Beagle” complete with seatbelt (usually a slinky) ✈️
8. MSM’s VIOLET 🎭
9. So much snow, mostly gone now 🌨️
10. Swapped bedrooms to see if it would solve Harry’s respiratory issues. (it didn’t, but now we have the bigger room with two closets) 🏠 by @maggie_ftw

January! The coldest month. The world feels terrible right now but here are the little happinesses that kept me going. Also, f*ck ICE.

1. Odin turned 7 and is still as photogenic as ever 🐕‍🦺
2. We worked with the other tenants in our building to clean up a hellish trash area 🗑️
3. I ate key lime ice cream 5 days in a row 🍋‍🟩
4. It snowed! 🌨️
5. A lot!❄️
6. Still, I love a snowy winter. And the park in every season. ☃️
7. I’ve started doing makeup for headshots and it’s really fun 💋
8. Harry can’t wait to visit his cousin and is counting the days 🗓️
9. I did makeup on a fun shoot with a costume designer and flexed a creative muscle that has been atrophying 👑
10. Odin loves the subway now and taking him to the studio is the best thing ever 🚇
11. Danger cold means indoor time 🧗‍♂️

November wrap up (a day late)
A sprained foot, visits with Michigan family (here and in the mitten) two art museums, two Broadway shows, first snow, and first time in a water park. We still don’t have a Christmas tree. I’ll do better next month! by @maggie_ftw

October! After 20 New England autumns it’s nice to know they are equally lovely in other places. The cold air makes me irrationally happy. October was busy and fun: started with a giant MTA themed birthday party and visit from family, trips back to NE for work, a few jobs here, a few illnesses there, lots of school activities, block parties, playing in the park, some professional milestones, and of course, Halloween. I had *no* idea Halloween is such a big thing here. Even Nile and I dressed up for the first time, probably ever? (Helly R and Mark S) The best thing by far is seeing Harry at ease in the chaos, forming friendships with his classmates, and being loved on by our friends. As usual, I’m dreading November. It’s the hardest month. The one where it takes every ounce of strength to do anything. Wish us luck 🍂 by @maggie_ftw

Five years. FIVE! Half a decade. I can’t even remember life before him anymore. Harry is the coolest, most loved kid. Over the past year he managed to navigate social relationships at three different schools. He learned to read. His love of cars and trucks was eclipsed by trains and Legos. He knows all the words to COME FROM AWAY. (Except the bad ones, which I hide with a strategic cough) He loves his cousin so, so much. He is still curious and kind, and, like both parents, will likely be completely reliant on to-do lists. (and have really bad handwriting) by @maggie_ftw

It’s usually pretty hard paring down a month of photos, but I barely took any pictures in September. (Personally or professionally) It was also the first month I didn’t leave NY, like, at all. Harry’s school has a sweet little homestead garden with 8 (EIGHT!) hens. Odin peed on a mum so I bought it, and I dropped an entire can of paint. Still haven’t hung up all the art. In short: kid is in kindergarten, it’s way too hot for this time of year, and I’m feeling pretty rooted in our neighborhood. (case in point, we have 60 people coming to Harry’s birthday party this weekend 😵) by @maggie_ftw
