12 years of Beastie! 12 years. I had no idea what was in store for me when I boarded a plane to fly to Missouri to pick up my little Beast. 12 years of adventure, of friendship, of growth. I have seen corners of our earth most people won’t because of this car. While we didn’t roadtrip as much this year, just the nature of a fluctuating life, I still smile taking Beastie out for a spin around the neighborhood. He’s got loads of rust and hopefully this next year we’ll address some of that, but his heart is strong and I still have big plans for us yet! My friends in the South, watch out I’ll be calling you.

So here’s to 12 years my silver box. Hold on a little longer we’ve got more to see.

I’m angry. And for goodness sake I hope you are too right now. These are OUR PUBLIC LANDS! 3.3 million acres of public land is proposed for a mandatory sell off in the proposed ‘Big Beautiful Bill’. Selling off PUBLIC land is pretty damn ugly to me.

All of these images were taken on land proposed for sale. If I looked at every state with proposed sale land I’m sure I could find another 50 images I have taken on this public land that’s proposed for sale.

Call your senator. Tell them you oppose the sale of PUBLIC land.

The end of August for the last 4 years has been marked by a fun birthday trip with my mom @maureenmcdermut ! This year was no different, we relaxed at Dunton Hot Springs, enjoyed incredible meals by @rocky_cooks_ , went onto Telluride for some wonderful mountain views, followed by some amazing vintage shopping in Santa Fe and a visit to Bandelier National Monument. Then a quick stop off at home before my mom headed back to California. I love this week with my mom, and at 34 I’m just thankful we can still spend this time together. My dad visits a lot in the winter for skiing so this week is really one of the only times it’s just the two of us. I’m already looking forward to next years adventure. taken in Telluride, Colorado by @maggiemcdermut

August is always such a busy month. Kicking it off is Solid Axle Summit…10! Been rambling around the San Juan Mountains with my friends for 10 years! The event has grown and grown and grown but dang it’s one that I’ll still have on the calendar year after year. Way too many people to try and tag. As always thanks for to everyone who joins me on my runs and is ok with a slow ass diesel showing ya the mountains we love. And another year of announcing the raffle! Always a highlight for me, I love getting to let my nerd side out a bit. taken in Telluride, Colorado by @maggiemcdermut

July 2026. A month that started off with a snapbang. A really neat photo shoot in Moab where I was photographer instead of in front of the lens, then heading to Santa Fe to see my work in a gallery 🥹. Followed by lots of work and a lot of time spent with horses, both my MavMan and work boyfriend Henry. Had a very lovely Denver day with family, felt nice to break things up a bit. Ohh and got to see The Droptines in Snowmass for free! Tried to squeeze in runs with BombaDog in between it all. #landcruiser #exploremore #westernstyle #alittlebitcountry taken in Moab, Utah by @maggiemcdermut

On June 30th, 2025 I shared a post about sitting in existential dread. While I don’t know if what I’m doing now will be what I do ‘forever’, I can say I’m so much happier now. You know the saying, love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life. Well I love working with horses. I love being outside everyday. I love the little community @bearcatstables and I’m so happy that I leaned into this work full time.

June was a month of horses, a quick trip to Wyoming, getting outside, and continued self growth. taken in Eagle, Colorado by @maggiemcdermut

May 2026. The month of Bomba, Maverick, and ranch work.

Covered for my barn manager for two weeks so he could have a much needed vacation, and then started up again @bearcatstables.

The short, I’m so happy to get out of my head and work with my hands, to be outside just focused on the moment in hand. taken in Eagle, Colorado by @maggiemcdermut

May has also been the month of Maverick.

I had all these big plans and ideas for how I wanted to start Maverick, but when it came down to it, I did none of them and the time was just right.

I was dealing with some frustrating interpersonal relationship stuff (for lack of better term) this month and it was like I had to lose total trust in someone I cared for, for Maverick to trust me unconditionally.

My emotionally vulnerability gave him space for his vulnerability.

Horses just know.

I started by just weighting his back and gradually grew to throwing a leg over. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m still astounded by how chill he is with all this new work. We’re working on forward motion and maybe a saddle soon.

Although I am appreciating the poetry in the fact when I started riding my trainer had me ride bareback for years to really get a feel for the horse, so maybe Mav will learn best when it’s just him and I in a round pen just like when I first learned.

Forever grateful for his trust in me especially as a Mustang who lived in the wild for 8 years. I still tear up thinking about his trust and how far we’ve come. taken in Eagle, Colorado by @maggiemcdermut

As May is coming to a close (how the heck is 2026 going to fast) it’s time for my usual month reflection. Although this May will come in 3 different parts. 1st being all things Bomba.

I picked up Bomba from DogDad Josh with her diagnosis of Cushings, a disease affecting the pituitary gland and cortisol production. While I was happy to have an answer to her decline in the previous 5 months I faced a big battle of getting it under control.

On day 3 of her medication, she just tanked. A trip to the emergency vet showed the meds had decreased her cortisol production to damn near zero.

I have never been so afraid to lose her, looking over at her sleeping, just hoping I’d see her chest move up and down and every time I did there was a huge sigh of relief. Then after a few visits to our regular vet, more blood tests to make sure one of the worst side effects from her meds hadn’t happened, adrenal necrosis, which thank goodness it hadn’t, and more STIM tests we landed on what we hoped was a more appropriate dosage for Bomba.

Bit of a kick in the pants back to reality after my month of backpacking and desert time.

With the new dosage I saw a huge positive change in Bomba. Her energy was back, she was running again, and I witnessed her first zoomie in probably 6 months. After more tests we’re still not quite where we want to be with her cortisol numbers, so more med dosage tweakage and hopefully in another month Bomba will be even more like Bomba. by @maggiemcdermut
