Rhipicephalus (Tick)

SECRET LIFE: DISCOVERING URBAN FAUNA

Always check yourself after walking in the bush, you may come back home accompanied.

They are commonly known as “brown ticks” due to the lack of color pattern on their coat, which makes them very difficult to identify to species level.

They have a worldwide distribution and among the species of the genus are the dog ticks, originally from the African continent.

The original size image 53 cm high by 50 cm wide is currently on display at the MNCN.

Porcellionides pruinosus

SECRET LIFE: DISCOVERING URBAN FAUNA.

There's a crab in my bathroom!

With a predilection for moist environments, this species can be found sheltering under stones or in damp areas inside homes.

Also, because they are easy to keep, people breed them as pets and classify them as Koi carp.

The original 130 cm by 83 cm image is currently on display at the MNCN.

This species is commonly known as the “brown marbled stink bug” because of its odor and color.

It is a species native to East Asia but has spread to other continents and has become a pest that threatens both ornamental plants and crops.

During the hibernation phase they usually hide in houses and vehicles, in fact, the specimen was found inside a house in Madrid.

The image is composed of a compilation of 2903 photographs resulting in an image of 199 cm high by 143 cm wide.

Episyrphus balteatus (Sylphid)

You may have seen them flying like hummingbirds or you may have been frightened by them thinking they are wasps, but the truth is that these pollinators are only dangerous to aphids on which their larvae feed as the main course. The coloration of the adults is called Batesian mimicry and they use it in the same way that a mugger would use a plastic gun to rob a bank... I mean, they don't need money... but they mimic something dangerous to... well, you get the idea.

The original 137cm by 95cm image is currently on display at the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid.
