✨A space for busy people to quiet their thoughts & rest w/o guilt
💪🏽 Yoga • Disability Advocate • Scoliosis warrior

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
winter is approaching and so is the seasonal depression — for some of us, it’s already here :-)

i wanted to create a helpful resource so we can prepare for the hard days. a list of staple grocery items and meals i make when i’m feeling burned out.

there’s nothing more difficult than waking up and randomly feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders, but remembering you still have to clean yourself, eat, and go to work like nothing’s wrong.

hopefully this list makes the days feel a bit more bearable <3 recipes were half-ass written bc my own depression wouldn’t allow for full instructions lol.

additionally, some of these recipes may be a bit more complex than your body is allowing.

i personally find peace and accomplishment through cooking (i hate prep lol), so please take away what feels like too much.

🌟 support ya girl by downloading my e-book (@quiet.the.noise.ebook), subscribing to my email list + youtube channel, or donating $ whatever you can 🌟

plz share with your community — you never know who may need this and when they may need it 💋

i know how it is when ideas and thoughts become too much to handle. it’s hard to differentiate between reality and a hypothetical.

as a chronic overthinker, i was always stressed about making mistakes, failing, or being judged by others. ironically, i was the one judging myself and knew i needed to get out of this unhealthy cycle 🔄

that’s when i created an E-book guide 📖 to help people approach intrusive thoughts with acceptance, grace, and empowerment.

✨ “Quiet the Noise” is a gentle resource aimed to help you identify and understand intrusive thoughts, reclaim control of your mental narrative, and practice different techniques to ease the overwhelmingly, loud noise 🌸

Black Communal Healing 🤝 Black History Month
♥️💛💚

*key takeaways*
resting without guilt means directly resisting the capitalistic system. resting without guilt is a protest against the idea “i am not worthy if i don’t work”. active rest gives us the space to be optimistic, dream, and remain hopeful for our future. if we want to break generational cycles of trauma, we must start with resting our body without the guilt behind it.

i asked chaptgpt to name the top 3 myths surrounding outside perception of disabilities.

the original answers were kinda wack so i updated and added my own lol

((side note: pictures are NOT me! they are borrowed images of Simone R. from the @settingscoliosisstraight website))

•• myths & truths ••

1. myth: “A disability automatically means a lower quality of life”

truth: Quality of life is shaped by access, community, and autonomy — not the disability itself.
Many disabled individuals live full, joyful, empowered lives when society removes barriers.

2. myth: “People who don’t use devices, aren’t disabled”

truth: Disabilities look different for everyone, and the amount of support one needs doesn’t define their. Many disabled individuals live fully independent lives with no assistive devices; others use tools, technology, or occasional assistance to navigate the world. Support is a form of empowerment, not a measure of ability.

3. myth: “Those with disabilities are always vocal about their condition”

truth: People share based on comfort, safety, timing, and trust — not obligation. Not every disability is visible. Those with invisible or chronic conditions may choose not to disclose because it can lead to misunderstanding, doubt, or unwanted attention, and can be exhausting to constantly explain to others.

•• how to support someone with a disability ••

Believe people the first time they share their experience.

Avoid assumptions about what they “can” or “can’t” do.

Make space for rest without guilt or explanation.

Ask, “How can I support you right now?”

Educate yourself rather than relying on them to teach you.

on thursday i went through another back procedure, but this time, they took out the rods and metal hardware from my scoliosis correction surgery in 2010 🩻

i was more prepared for this surgery because the doctors mentioned the hardware may be causing the persistence of a bacterial infection in my body, however they were trying to avoid it as much as possible.

personally, i was ready to get it over with. i’d rather experience hardware removal than know a bacterial infection is invading my bloodstream and i’d have to undergo life long antibiotics.

it’s been quite a journey since my second surgery this summer, but with a loving support system and a strong intuition, everything has happened as it was meant to 💗

we’ve all done it… we say “i need some time to myself, i need to rest, i need silence” then we go right back to our people pleasing ways, giving other people the energy we need to reserve for ourselves.

a reminder of what NOT to do while taking care of yourself:

- focus on outside perception
- worry about work
- people pleasing
- engage in high maintenance relationships
- criticize yourself for not doing enough
- doom scroll and compare yourself to others

another friendly reminder to show yourself grace and unconditional love. you were built with intention and are perfect just the way you are ❤️ check out my e-book for helpful resources and tips to control intrusive thoughts when you need it the most.

We (@nowcollective___ and @mahoganyflows) had the pleasure of leading a yoga flow for @hellabored.group’s Spoken For Wellness Event last month!

As always, the vibes were radiant, the DJ was spinnin hits, and the participants had such great energy! after the yoga flow, attendees shopped with local vendors, made some new local friends, and purchased mindful juices from @hellahappylife! we can’t wait to host another yoga flow with @hellabored.group 🩷

I scheduled a doctors appointment bc i was experiencing intense discomfort on my spine. the physician told me to go to the ER so they could do some tests… that turned into them performing an invasive spinal procedure 2 days later 🥲

i was very anxious and honestly, mentally unprepared about what may happen.

however… i didn’t let my thoughts overwhelm me into a spiral. i felt very in control and optimistic, allowing myself to see the good in each moment.

here’s how i did it:

✨ i decided to change the narrative

i knew spiraling would only make things worse. i actively chose to change the narrative in my head from “omg what if this happens”, and focused on all the good that was already happening: “wow this is one of the best hospitals in the county. the nursing team is so caring. my loved ones are so supportive”.

✨ i focused on my own positive actions

there’s nothing i could change about the situation. i had an infection in my body that may have gotten worse before it got better.

i repeatedly thought: “im proud of myself for seeking professional help when the discomfort increased. i’m happy i didn’t wait it out”.

✨ i advocated for myself each step of the way

as someone who has dealt w/ scoliosis since i was 12, i’m always worried about the dismissive nature of some medical professionals.

i actively spoke up for myself when i needed help, communicated my needs to each physician, and explained why i needed them to adjust my care plan. i did NOT let them overstep my boundaries nor dismiss me. i refused to allow someone with “higher education” to be overshadow what I NEED.

✨ these are the same tools offered in “Quiet The Noise”. this gentle guide teaches you how to calm your mind and remain confident during overwhelming situations. it teaches you how to break down a chaotic mindset, and offers new perspectives to turn to when you need it the most.

i’m so thankful for it and i hope it can help someone else during their time of need.
