Today is the final day of The God of the Bay of Roses.
With sincere thanks to the artists, and to Michael Taylor and the VMFA for their insight, support, and generosity throughout the process.

𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: 𝙏𝙤𝙧𝙞 𝙈𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘼𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙁𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙝

Please join us this evening from 5–7:30 pm for the opening reception of 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘍𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘩, a two-person exhibition featuring new and recent work by Tori Mitchell and Amelia Baxter. Both artists received their MFAs from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2026.

Bringing together Mitchell’s oil paintings and Baxter’s ceramic sculptures, 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘍𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘩 considers how inherited images, histories, and forms can be revised and remade. Mitchell draws from medieval, religious, and mythological imagery to construct a lesbian counter-history, while Baxter creates large-scale ceramic organisms that explore the body as a site of vulnerability, transformation, and becoming.

Main Projects is pleased to present 𝘌𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘍𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘶𝘴𝘰𝘯: 𝘍.𝘓.𝘞. 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯 featuring works from a series of 18 unique monoprints published by Main Projects.

Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Marin Civic Center in San Rafael, California, the series translates the building’s repeating arches, circular forms, and rhythmic geometry into works that feel both graphic and architectural.

Ferguson’s practice brings together pattern, color, repetition, and an intuitive approach to geometry. For this series, she hand-screened layers of pigmented plaster onto heavyweight watercolor paper before each work was debossed using a custom magnesium die. The process creates recessed lines and subtle relief alongside the color, texture, and variation of the plaster.

While the works share a common visual language, each monoprint is individually made and entirely unique.

Join us for the opening of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘮, Abbi Kenny’s first solo exhibition with Main Projects.

Food, ornament, appetite, and excess collide in paintings built from layers of pigment, glass, mica, stone, and memory. Shellfish, fruit, serving platters, family recipes, and decorative motifs accumulate into images that feel lush, theatrical, humorous, and slightly uncanny.

Bringing together work across sculpture, painting, photography, glass, and textiles, 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘵 offers a charged cross-section of emerging practices shaped by questions of perception, materiality, and the unstable boundaries between object and image.
