Just a few days left to see my first solo show “The Tasting Room” @main_projects_ in Richmond, VA! It is such a beautiful space. They have been so lovely and supportive of my practice and trusting of the vision! Excuse the slightly sweaty and frazzled selfie, but I am so excited and grateful for my first solo show The Tasting Room @main_projects_ They did such a great job with it and have been so supportive of my practice! Thank you for the lovely opening yesterday. Proper install shots to come soon, but better yet find yourself in Richmond and see the show between now and July 9th. We are having a lovely visit in a fun city 🌃

For Pride Month we’d like to spotlight @main_projects_ for this Friday’s shoutout, a local art gallery currently presenting two exhibitions. Signal Boost: New Voices from the VCUarts MFA Program, their second annual exhibition highlighting select artists from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. The Tasting Room, Abbi Kenny’s first solo exhibition with Main Projects. Shellfish, fruit, serving platters, family recipes, and decorative motifs accumulate into images that feel lush, theatrical, humorous, and slightly uncanny.

There are artists who work with materials. Then there are artists who enter into a physical negotiation with them. We discovered Brie Ruais @brie_ruais inside Bodies of Becoming at Main Projects, Richmond. In Petaling Within, 130lbs (2025), she transforms clay equal to her own body weight into a fragmented botanical form that appears simultaneously vulnerable and resilient. The sweet resinous smell of lumber was the perfume of my childhood. Fences, decks, rooms, homes…My parents were always engaged in some building project or another. But it was never just the end state they were after. No, what they were chasing was that sense of suspension between minds-eye vision and final realization. There’s no English word that captures the depth of that feeling. But you’ll feel it in response to this and other Alex Hutton paintings now on view at Main Projects. DM me to learn more. Pictured Billet, 2025, 26 x 37 in, oil on linen About the Artist Alex Hutton is a Brooklyn-based painter whose work centers on structures built for movement but held in suspension. Drawing from systems of engineering and leisure - rollercoasters, frameworks, and architectural supports - his paintings depict forms that are complete yet uninhabited, caught in a moment before activation.
