Same mission. New name. 💚

When I started this page, I thought I was simply creating guides.

But over time, I realized this space has become so much more than that.

It’s about helping moms feel confident getting out with their kids.

It’s about realistic adventures, flexible day plans, hidden gems, encouragement, and making memories without needing everything to be perfect.

So with that in mind, Maine Mom Guide is becoming Maine Mom Compass 🧭

Because this community isn’t just about places to go, it’s about helping moms navigate motherhood and adventure together.

I’m so excited for what’s ahead. Thank you for being here. 💛 by @mainemomcompass

If planning a day out with kids ever feels like… too much 😅

This is exactly why I made these.

Not packed itineraries.
Not “do everything” lists.

Just simple, realistic day plans that actually work with kids—
✔️ built around naps
✔️ minimal transitions
✔️ no constant decision-making

You can follow them as-is or mix + match depending on your day.

Because getting out of the house shouldn’t feel harder than staying home.

💾 Save this for your next “what should we do today?” moment
🤍 Follow for more easy, low-stress days out with kids in Maine

New Gloucester is my town, and this weekend it’s showing off 🍁

Thompson’s Orchard has been run by the same family since 1906, and the cider donuts come out warm all day. My son ate his in the wagon before we even got to the apples.

Make a whole day of it: start with the half mile loop at Intervale Preserve, flat enough for little legs and full of color right now. Grab wood-fired pizza at the Village Store, which neighbors chipped in to reopen this summer, plus a ready-made dinner from the cooler. Then finish at the orchard with donuts, apple picking and the pumpkin patch.

It’s hunting season, so throw on the orange. Details are in the slides.

Save this for your fall weekend, and send it to the friend who always says “we should go apple picking.”

Hurricane Meadows in Falmouth is one of our favorite fall farms in Maine, and it has basically everything in one stop: a corn maze, jumping pillows, a corn pit, a potato cannon, pick your own pumpkins, farm animals, and apple cider donuts.

This year’s maze honors the Portland Hearts of Pine (“Lead With Your Heart”), and the farm is fundraising for their foundation. They also doubled their pumpkin and sunflower fields and added silo swings, a trike track, and a 20 foot slide off a combine. We haven’t tried the new stuff yet, so tell me what’s worth it if you get there first.

After the farm we head to Cumberland Town Forest for a flat gravel loop and a Story Walk, which makes an easy nap or wind down. The farm is open Fridays through Sundays until Nov 1, $15 per person with kids under 2 free, plus free parking and stroller friendly.

I did not start this account because I had free time. I started it because I was the mom googling “things to do with kids near Portland” at 9pm the night before, again.

Now I do that googling for you. Crowd-free plans, real timing, what to skip, what to pack. Maine, mapped out by someone who’s actually there with two kids and a diaper bag.

If Friday night planning is not your favorite hobby either, follow along. New plans every week. 🍂 by @mainemomcompass

Quill Hill sits at 2,848 feet outside Rangeley, and you can drive right to the top. My kids slept through the whole thing. 😂

We’d planned to do the short walk to the viewpoint, but they passed out on the ride over, so we took in the 360 degree view from the front seat. Still worth it. (If yours stay awake, bring layers. It is WINDY up there.)

The rest of the day was just as easy. We started with a short foliage walk to a quiet mountain pond, grabbed sandwiches in town, and spent the afternoon at the lakeside playground downtown. 🍁

Quill Hill’s road is only open to cars for a few more weeks, so go now or save this for next fall.

We’ve hiked this mountain a few times now, and it’s officially one of our favorite fall traditions. Even when we had a newborn in the carrier and a two year old who refused to nap, it was still one of the best days of the season. 🍂

The boat ride alone is worth it for little kids. Then you pick your adventure: climb to the fire tower, or take the easy shore trail and let the foliage do the work. Finish skipping rocks on a beach with the cliff right above you, and you’ll have a happy, tired family on the boat home.

Heads up, the shuttle stops running Oct 12. If you can’t make it this week, save this for next fall. 📌 taken in Moosehead Lake by @mainemomcompass

Halfway through fall and I’m being straight with you: some of the September events in the Fall Calendar have come and gone. Most of the plan hasn’t.

There are still 16 day plans you can pick up and use, weekday or weekend, and plenty of October’s best seasonal stuff is still ahead.

So it’s $7 now for the rest of the season. If you’ve been meaning to grab it, this is a good week. Link in bio. by @mainemomcompass

Headed to the Cumberland Fair this week? Here’s how to make a whole day of it. 🎡

I did not expect a free Audubon farm in Falmouth to be the spot my kids begged to stay at, but it was a hit. They spent half the morning in the indoor nature room and the other half running laps on a stage like it was their farewell tour.

Then sandwiches from Leavitt & Sons (my son is still talking about the one with brie and roasted pears), and an afternoon on the wide sandy beach in Cumberland that @tinybootsmaine found when her first plan hit a full parking lot. Afternoon spot and footage are all hers. 🙌

Save this for the next gray fall Saturday. Things to do with kids near Portland, Falmouth and Cumberland, Maine, all just off Route 1. taken in Cumberland, ME by @mainemomcompass

Pick your own flowers in Maine before the first frost 🌸 full day plan in North Berwick

Every September I assume flower season is over, and every September I’m wrong. There’s a self-serve flower field in North Berwick that stays open until the first hard frost. You grab the shears, fill a vase from the spigot, and build your own bouquet for $20. Nobody hovers, nobody rushes you, and your kid gets to pick the one weird flower that makes the whole thing perfect.

Start the morning with goats, a bubble table, and a big sandbox at a local farm market, grab lunch without packing a single thing, and end with an armful of dahlias and zinnias. It’s a full fall day in southern Maine with basically zero planning required. 🙌

Frost could end this any week now, so save this for Saturday and send it to the friend who’d come with you. 🍂
