Hanoi, Vietnam 🛵💐🥚 animated by @_hungrysandwich ❤️‍🔥 🛒 Link in bio to shop a print of the illustration or others in the collection 🖼️ This piece was originally from my Drawing Diaries series ✏️- which serves as a canvas to chronicle my travels and experiences, where I can explore new ideas and experiment with a variety of materials and techniques ✍🏻 This episode drew inspiration from the bustling streets of Hanoi, Vietnam, capturing the dynamic essence of the capital. From the spectacle of motorbikes laden with massive egg deliveries, to the enticing aromas of street-side cuisine. Local residents expertly balancing on their bikes, to the vivid scenes of food and flower vendors intermingling with the rhythmic chaos of traffic. Earlier this year I was working with @_hungrysandwich on an animated version of a research publication I created with Uni of Bham titled ‘Intergenerational Futures’ - which we’ll be sharing v soon! During this process the idea developed of animating this Vietnam illustration & @andysandwich_ and the team started to work their magic on it 🪄 and they did not disappoint!! Sound onnnn 🔊 wow!! The still version of this illustration is currently long listed in @theaoi World Illustration Awards too, in the ‘exploration’ category. In good company alongside the @vamuseum booklet in the Design, Product & Packaging category 🤞🏻 Loved collaborating with HS on animated work this year - & hopefully here’s to many more opp’s! ☎️ Anyone looking for illustrated animated work, get in touch via hello@maisysummer.com 📫 Swipe for process 📲 Happy Friday ! :-) #illustration #animation #vietnam #hanoi #mixedmedia taken in Hanoi, Vietnam by @maisysummer

✏️ Drawing Diaries | August 2023 I’ve been soaking up lots of new spaces and places since moving to London in April. I’ve been wanting to launch a series that compiles these observations and allows me to reflect on my new favourite spots through video footage and drawing - which I’ve decided to call ‘Drawing Diaries’ 📖   I’ve always enjoyed documenting my daily travels and have a plethora of notes, sketches, photos, and videos over the last few years. I’ve been saying for ages that I’ll do something with them but never seem to find the head space to DO IT 🪄 Thankfully, Derwent kindly commissioned this episode, which provided me with the motivation to get started, as well as some great new materials to experiment with! 🙌🏻 Throughout the illustrations, I’ll be using materials from the Derwent Inktense collection. #AD   The format is similar to the Paris video I made with Derwent last year - interacting with new sites, local history, and walking routes! 🚶🏻‍♀️ Views from the @royaloperahouse , walks around Crystal Palace park & dinosaurs, and the beautiful Palm House at @kewgardens are all shown in this video. I’ll show the finished artworks in a later post.   Next in the drawing diaries series will be a mini-episode from last month’s @londongraphiccentre event and some insight into that piece, and the next full episode will be from September 2023 | Vietnam 🌱 #derwent #illustration #drawingdiaries #travel #drawing #sketchbook #crystalpalacelondon #illustrator #illustratorsoninstagram #kewgardens #royaloperahouse Things to check out in Crystal Palace: @crystalpalaceantiques @crystalpalacebowl @crystalpalaceparktrust @crystalpalacetriangle @crystalpalacesportscentre @crystalpalacefoodmarket @crystalpalaceparkmkt @thesourcingtableshopandbar @trainingpoints (the best classes!) taken in London, United Kingdom by @maisysummer

Woooo, it’s been almost a whole year since my collection with @paperlesspost launched 💌🥺 Thoroughly enjoyed bringing this collection together full of invites for life’s spontaneous, exciting & memorable moments. The beauty of the digital invite is you can quickly send a custom invite to your pals for that last min summer BBQ, your new book club, flat warming, cocktails with the girlies, or that very special 1st bday party! Fully personalisable for those more spontaneous moments to super special occasions 👀💒 It’s looking like we’re already on for a sunny spell again this weekend, so why not fire up the BBQ one last timeee this summer? 🌭🍅 Which one are you sending next? 📫 📚 For me it might be the book club one!! I’m part of two book clubs now & it’s re-energized my love of reading (& listening on audible). Having some light accountability to try out new genres & themes has been so gooood! And having a wee pint whilst we natter about it?.. Even better! 🍻 Link in bio to get started with crafting the perfect invite! 💌 #illustration #summer #invites #occasions #paperlesspost taken in London, United Kingdom by @maisysummer

The Seasonal Pantry 🫜 Loved working with the wonderful Jeff Quintana (@condobleefe) from @trapublishing on a mix of chapter illos for ‘The Seasonal Pantry’ by French artisan baker Benoît Castel (@benoit_castel). The cover changed direction in the end to photography so I did a lil mock up of a draft cover by Jeff for the vision ✨, but each chapter is celebrated with a food themed illustration 🙌🏻. Would love to work on more cookbooks 🍝 👀 The book includes 75 recipes that respect the seasons as well as your budget 🍄‍🟫. Look forward to giving some of these recipes a whirl! #illustration #cookbook by @maisysummer

How I Make Money as an Illustrator 📊✏️🫡 It’s a mix of.. branding, animation, murals, talks, workshops, products & prints, research projects, brand collabs, advertising, editorial, publishing - it changes and shifts every year. 💡 Which is what I love about illustration, working with new clients, producing work for different mediums, finding exciting new collaborators & overcoming different challenges ⚠️ I was asked to discuss this topic in a recent talk with @inkygoodness, it was nice to visualize & take stock of the projects & opportunities I’ve been very thankful to work on to date 🫶🏻 Images from past few years, pie chart 25/26 stats 🥧📊 PS. Loved discovering @yonamuhr ceramic work through this V cool video edit via the @theprintedpeanut’s latest post - so fun!! I need one of those ceramic jewellery holders 🤩. PPS. Talking of The Printed Peanut 🥜 we have a wonderful @smallfrycollective talk coming up with Louise Lockhart where we’ll get a peek into her process & projects. Balancing her practice between selling her products, creating work for exhibitions, working on her 11th children book and collaborating with renowned brands. 👏🏻 Wanna join the conversation? Head to the @smallfrycollective bio to catch the re-play! 🎟️ 🎥 #illustration #artistsofinstagram #illustrator #creative #smallbusiness by @maisysummer

It was such a pleasure last Friday to chat at ‘Pen to Screen, Digital Illustration Now’ at the @vamuseum, in conversation with fellow Illustrator @benjamindraws & Illustrator & Assistant Curator of Prints at the V&A @beautifullywastedspace - talking all about experimentation, project journeys and development, and our processes from handcrafted to digital & everything in between ➿. We also received such great questions from the audience too in the QnA, thank you! 🙌🏻 Was esp fun to see the animation created with @studio___cultura on a big screen! 🪩🕺🏼🍷 This event was part of the V&A’s inaugural Digital Art Season which runs until the end of November 2024, and addresses questions of technology, creativity and digital culture. 📸 @wseungseung #illustration #museum #digital #handcrafted taken in V&A Museum by @maisysummer
