AHHHHHHH!!

I’m extremely excited to show you all the STUNNING UK cover for The Witch Without Memory!!! @julian.de.narvaez.art continues to amaze me with his artwork. I especially love the winged serpent (who I have affectionately dubbed ‘the pool noodle’). It’s very precious to me. I’m so grateful to have such beautiful covers for the Obsidian Throne trilogy 🧡 @harpervoyager_uk

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

• An empress with vengeance in her heart •

Prince Ashoka’s sister, Aarya, has named herself empress and is determined to reverse her brother’s mercy for the mayakari.

• A witch lost in dreams •

Shakti is being held by shadowy figures, drugged and forced to commit an unspeakable crime. When she wakes, she finds herself prisoner, but gaps in her memory around the curse she has cast trap her more thoroughly than any cage.

• The prince trying to change the world •

Ashoka must find allies and quickly if he is to usher in a new dawn for the mayakari, but the tougher the decision he makes, the farther he gets from his true self. He must determine what he is willing to lose in pursuit of his vision of the future.

The first blow has been dealt by Ashoka and Shakti, but the empire not only remains, it appears stronger – and more brutal – than ever. Both must find ways to fight back before nature is deprived of its spirits and guardians, and the reign of the new empress spreads its destruction and oppression to lands beyond.

Since I don’t have long hair anymore, a new author photo seemed long overdue. This was a Herculean effort by a very patient photographer because I can’t smile without it looking awkward.

Skip to slide 4 and you’ll find a teeny tiny book 3 snippet. Slide 5 is a WIP/Work In Progress that’s kind of supernatural, kind of horror, and kind of romantic (🫠). Both are about hearts, but not in a cute way.

✨ CHARACTER ART REVEAL ✨

Hi. Hello. Surprise?

I commissioned this absolutely gorgeous artwork of Ashoka and Shakti from @nadiabeeart ! She was so lovely to work with, and her art style is STUNNING. I’ve been pulling up this picture on my phone repeatedly to just stare at it in silent awe.

The devil is in the details, too! Ashoka’s burned ear. Shakti’s necklace (her aunt’s). The blue fire represents Shakti’s mayakari blood, because witches burn blue. The red flowers climbing up Ashoka’s arm symbolise new beginnings. Apt, or maybe not. Maybe I’m lying 👀. Wouldn’t be the first time.

🚨🚨🚨 IMPORTANT PSA 🚨🚨🚨

For those of you who are unaware, or if you’ve come across this book for the first time, I would like to stress that Ashoka and Shakti are NOT love interests. I know it looks like they are, but they aren’t. And to be fair, I don’t think that assumption can be avoided. But rest assured that there will be NO lip-on-lip action between them for very clear reasons that surface when you read the book. These two become unlikely allies, and maybe friends by book 2 🤷🏾‍♀️. Bros, even.

To further hammer my point home, I have included the anime that I used as inspiration for Ashoka and Shakti’s pose. These characters are from the manga-turned-anime Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (one of the greats). The massive suit of armour (Alphonse) and the short blonde boy (Edward) are siblings, which sounds weird but also makes sense should you choose to watch the anime. It’s a great watch, and episode 4 makes me cry every time.

So, the takeaway today is: appreciate the artwork and also maybe watch FMAB. by @maithreewrites

Maithree Wijesekara is an Australian-Sri Lankan author based in Melbourne. Graduating with a Master’s degree in Dentistry in 2021, she splits her time between telling people to please brush their teeth, and writing stories inspired by the fantastical and the real world. When she isn’t writing, you can find her attempting to finish her never-ending TBR pile and ingesting unhealthy amounts of coffee. If given the chance, she will slip in a mention of her dearly departed Labrador during conversation.
