Heart attack only!

On a serious note, pencils are one of the most common causes of eye injuries in children after finger nail injuries. They can range from small self resolving bleeding spots (sub-conjunctival haemorrhages) to vision threatening injuries that could even require major surgery! So keep 'em pencils facing downward! (And those nails trimmed 😁)

Also, how did I get through childhood without becoming blind?!

Eye injuries, eye health, pencil, trauma

I'm telling you, the OG "catch me if you can" con artist is this blood sucking, sleep disturbing, anxiety inducing organism.

Don't come at me and say "Oh but they are needed for ecological balance" or you'll have to give me all mine and my kids' blood back.

And the best part? You don't even have to do or be anything special to wield in that power. All your baby needs is you, just as you are.

Now tell me, fellow mommies - what's your baby's most common "on" trigger for crying??
Mine is putting her down when asleep - I put her down, she'll bring the roof down with those screams!

Yup. Just different seasons of the flu.
Excuse me while I go blow my nose for the 80564th time today, which for some reason makes my baby laugh.

Boo said this to me while having breakfast today and to be honest, I was a little taken aback. Not because I felt he shouldn't have said it, I'm actually glad he did...but because of how true it is. And it hit me.

It isn't a deliberate effort but we so easily manage to remain calm around the baby while the older kid gets the brunt of our anger. The baby could be throwing the fussiest of fusses and we cuddle, carry, kiss n sing....but when the older child throws a slight tantrum, we end up losing it.

I had promised myself that I won't let the "older child syndrome" affect Boo and yet here I am.

I read somewhere that it's not just the lack of sleep or hormonal levels but also that we are tuned to give everything to the welfare of a newborn (whose wants we fail to understand most of the time) so even a small demand from an older child (who can actually tell us what they need or want) seems like the last straw and we snap.

I took a few seconds to take it in and apologised to Boo first and told him that I will try and be calm with him as well and that we can talk more about it and figure out ways to calm myself a little later.

We cannot expect a child to understand a new mom psyche or the mood swings or the sleep deprivation ....and today morning was a reality check that my soon to be 6 year old is still a baby too and I need to show up for him too the way I show up for Bunny ....

Looks like Boo parenting his parents already!

A vacation? Oh, no that's too much to ask ...
A luncheon with friends, maybe?
How about shopping?
No? Window shopping?
Not possible?
Well, just a walk around the block atleast?

Umm sorry, my son coughed, he might catch a cold...
I'd have to take a raincheck, baby's vaccine day...
Let's reschedule, she hasn't slept properly all day....
Oh hmmm, he has a class at that time, another day, ok?
Well, okay, you go ahead, I may catch up....

You know what, forget it, I'll just bring them both along and we can go for a walk, yeah? Great!

"Yesterday it was 3 girls for the puje, today it is 3 boys, alwa appa?" An observation my son made just before they started the Ganapathi puja today.

That sentence instantly took me back to my childhood. We lived with my grandparents so we were a family of 6 - 3 boys and 3 girls. And every year, during Gowri puje, it would be me, mom n grandma doing it and for the Ganapathi puje, it would be my brother, dad and grandpa while us girls spent the time cooking Ganapathi's favourite food for the neivedya.

I always found a strange kind of comfort in that symmetry of 3 boys and 3 girls. Almost a blissful kind of joy.

Over the years, my grandma and grandpa started sitting out owing to their health but the symmetry and its joy was maintained with 2 boys and 2 girls doing the puja.

Then we became adults, lost our grandparents and I got married. The symmetry was lost too. 2 boys and 1 girl at my mom's.
But a new symmetry found itself at my new home where I could give company to the only woman here, my mother-in-law. 2 boys, 2 girls.

Then came my son - again, an imbalance here but my brother moved abroad so symmetry of 1 man, 1 woman restored at my mom's.

Life's come a full circle now with the birth of my daughter. Symmetry and the comfort and joy of 3 boys and 3 girls here while it continues to be 1 man n woman at mom's.

Random observation but gives me so much joy!

Yes, I know. I'm weird to be writing a whole post on this but now that you've read it till here, hoping it was a good waste of 2 mins 😂
