Heart attack only!

On a serious note, pencils are one of the most common causes of eye injuries in children after finger nail injuries. They can range from small self resolving bleeding spots (sub-conjunctival haemorrhages) to vision threatening injuries that could even require major surgery! So keep 'em pencils facing downward! (And those nails trimmed 😁)

Globally, a whooping 63% women take a break in their careers owing to parenthood which is pretty obvious, coz, mom life. Healthcare industry sees the maximum return of women into the workforce (50%) but a significant chunk leave their careers permanently to take care of their homes, children and the elderly.

How often have you thought about your sick child at home while you're at work? How often have you thought about missing out on climbing the corporate ladder while you're rocking your baby to sleep?

It's an internal battle to return to work or not, the decision often influenced by partners, family support, distance to work, timings, financial status, etc. A lot of it, though, remains a mental struggle only amongst the women and no matter what the decision, we are often judged for it too (as if, our own mom-guilt wasn't enough!)

So let's get a conversation started around it to open up a safe space to voice out our opinions, fears, doubts and help uplift eachother in the process of making choices more freely without adding onto the guilt.

First urine therapy, now this? And a child!

Eye wash therapies seem to be just an eyewash! (See what I did there? ;)

Anyway, please know that God give TEARS NATURALLY CLEANSE OUR EYES. We DO NOT need water, urine (cow or human) , oil, ghee or anything else to clean them.

Your eyesight CANNOT be preserved by washing it everyday. If you have poor eyesight, you may need glasses/lenses/surgery to make it better.

A good habit for a child would be to stay away from mobile phones as much as possible , not washing eyes after watching screen for hours.

Ayurveda is the Indian system of medicine and it has tons of benefits, no doubt. But let's not insult the system by falling for such propaganda by influencers.

Copper is good - to use as a utensils to cook in/eat or drink from. Let's respect it for that and not burden the metal with more responsibilities.

And please, spare the children atleast!

"Putti Gets Glasses" is not just a story. It's the first step towards the healing of my inner child.

If I met the 12 year old me, the only thing I would do is hug her and tell her that she is loved - glasses or without.

Engineer turned fashion designer swerved into an illustrator - Soundarya Gottapu has many feathers to her cap!

An independent illustrator from Vizag, her works revolve around topics of nature, science, life’s paradoxes and human perceptions all with a touch of humour, wonder and colour.

When approached to illustrate for Puttu Gets Glasses, she took it up without a second thought. Being a girl who also wore glasses since childhood, she connected so well to the story and it shows in her vibrant and quirky illustrations!

With a keen eye for detail, she made sure she got every bit just right, from the classroom walls to even the tiniest details of the slit lamp microscope! 💚

Couldn't be more grateful to her for being the kindest person and being so patient with me the whole time and also so willing to adapt and modify as per my whims 🙈...

A picture book is as much about the illustrations as it is about the story (rather, more!) and a big shout out to Soundarya for putting in sugar, spice and everything nice to create perfect little Putti! 💜💜

Brought two babies into the world this year. To hold and get both of them in one frame feels surreal!

Putti Gets Glasses is beyond just a story of a girl who gets to wear glasses. It fosters body positivity, brings forth confidence in children, allows deeper connection between a parent and their child, strengthens friendship among peers and creates a safe space for children who wear glasses to feel accepted and included.

Putti is as close to my heart as can be, literally a part of my own childhood.
And I sincerely hope she can be a part of your life too 💜

I cannot thank @soundaryagottapu enough for being so patient with me and bringing out Putti and her world through the most beautiful illustrations.

Deeply thankful to @prasada.asodu and @harivubooks for making this tiny dream of mine come alive!

Hello everyone!

Here to give you all a small update.

Had been contemplating having an exclusive page only for eye health related content for over a year now and that's what this page is going to be about from here on 😊. I could have started a new page for it but since I have been putting time and effort on this page since 4 years now, it didn't make sense to start from scratch.

All kinds of other snippets from my life, my musings, bit of writing, Lil Boo stories etc, will be posted on @maithrimusings from now on. (Link in bio)

Lil Boo and my sarees might make an appearance here too on stories now and then 👶😉

If you have any topics/tips on eye that you'd like me to talk about, make reels or posts on, do let me know in the comments below and I shall do them. It would be specially helpful as I'm currently planning out topics and content.

Thank you for being here with me on this journey and I'm hoping to creating a difference, albeit small, by spreading more awareness on eye health.
