🗳️ I’m running for Berkeley City Council, District 4, as a progressive independent on Ohlone Land.

I’m Majdi Gaith — a parent, a Palestinian-American born and raised in the Bay Area, and a small business co-founder of a local coffee roasting and bakery venture.

I’m also a former Peace and Justice Commissioner and a UC Berkeley graduate. For over a decade, I’ve worked in trust and safety policy, protecting people from harassment, fraud, and abuse.

I’m running because the families, students, immigrants, and small businesses of Downtown and Central Berkeley deserve a councilmember who fights for them, not one who answers to lobbyists and developers.

My platform includes:
🏠 Affordable housing
🌳 Safer, cleaner neighborhoods
🏪 Saving our small businesses

We’re building a grassroots coalition that looks like Berkeley: Multiracial, multifaith and multigenerational.

Join us in bringing integrity back to Berkeley 🍉. taken in Downtown Berkeley by @majdoughs

Fireside Chat with Dr. Hatem Bazian and Majdi Gaith 🍉

Students of all backgrounds are invited to a conversation with my mentor, teacher, and friend, Dr. Hatem Bazian.

I’m a dual citizen Palestinian-American and Cal alumnus running for Berkeley City Council, District 4 (Downtown and Central Berkeley). Dr. Bazian taught me, my sibling, and my wife at Cal, so sitting down with him is a full-circle moment for me.

We’ll discuss my campaign and platform, what’s happening on campus, and Palestine in any capacity. The audience will have a chance to ask questions as well.

🗓️ September 29th
⌚ 5 PM

About Dr. Bazian: Dr. Bazian is a professor at UC Berkeley in Middle East Languages and Cultures and Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies, and a co-founder of Zaytuna College, the first accredited Muslim liberal arts college in the U.S. He’s a leading scholar in Islamophobia Studies, a co-founder of American Muslims for Palestine, and the author of several books, including his latest, Erasures: Immigration and Refugees: The Collapse of the Post-Colonial World Order. by @majdoughs

Came across a beautiful Hadith reminder recently.

When Allah swt created humanity, the angels asked Allah swt why He would make a creation that could cause corruption when they were already there to worship Him perfectly. They didn’t see the value in the “human mind”—a mix of intellect and desire.

✨But here’s the beauty found of Fajr (dawn) and Asr (afternoon) prayers:
These are the “Shift Changes.” The angels of the night and day meet during your Sujood (prostration). When they ascend, Allah swt—the All-Knowing—asks them how they left you.

✨Why does Allah swt ask if He already knows?
Because He is boasting about you. He is showing the angels that despite our struggles, our sleepiness, and our busy lives, we still ultimately choose Him.

✨The ultimate report to have on your record:
“O Allah swt, we found them praying, and we left them praying.” #ramadan#God#bakery taken in The Bread Project by @majdoughs

✨I always hoped that if I wasn’t born Muslim, that I’d somehow find it. Reverts to Islam are some of the dopest people you’ll ever meet
✨Us gas station Arabs / others were born into this. But they found this, on their own. الله اكبر
✨My family in Palestine is “Sunni” but I’ve always deeply appreciated Shia Islam. I don’t want to hear any criticism, esp after the HZ and Who-thee homies came through 🚀
✨ I’m Muslim before anything, even 🇵🇸
✨ They consume 1 billion Jaffa Cakes annually across the UK!
✨Stimulants never ease the pain of grief; they only numb the heart temporarily and postpone the inevitable. Only true love for Allah can hold that broken heart, transform the pain into worship, and turn grief into a bridge that leads back to the One and only. I ❤️ you Morad RIP forever #islam#jaffacakes#rap taken in Berkeley, California by @majdoughs
