And just like that, it’s over!!
The Autumn Gathering here at Makers Barn. Simon, Dan and I really enjoyed welcoming those of you who came to feast with us here at the barn. The weather was great, the guests equally great and my friends, the amazing Chefs Simon Dixon @simon.dixon1 and Dan Cuss @dancussco created many delicious dishes inspired by the onset of Autumn including many ingredients grown, foraged and sourced here in the South Downs National Park.
We are so happy, that we will be setting a date for another one in the Spring so keep your eye on Instagram and our website for this. You can sign up to our newsletter via our website which is another helpful reminder of events coming up!

Come join me for a lovely Christmas-themed candle workshop, where you will get to blend your very own fragrance.

Maybe you love cinnamon and orange - the classic seasonal fragrance or maybe you want to make a woody herbal fragrance - anything goes as you can blend your own.

Poured into 3 beautiful handmade pinch pots, they make the perfect gift or a treat for you.

We have sold out of the afternoon class so we opened up a morning slot, so get in quick! There is tea, coffee and biscuits and you can have a browse of all the wonderful artisan products the barn has to offer too.

Meet Chris @imchrisdean
In his spare time Chris has been learning basketry with the wonderful @catherinebeaumont_basketmaker
He’s very lucky to have such tuition from such a talented, knowledgeable, experienced and dedicated maker. As of next weekend he will be bringing these baskets and others to sell at Makers Barn. It’s what we, as makers always hope to see, younger makers coming into these crafts and becoming hooked! This is how these skills are surviving. Young Makers courses coming Spring 2027 for EXACTLY this reason!! Hooray for Chris and other young apprentices and makers!!

What a day! What a course!
Exceptional chef Dan @dancussco spent the day with this lovely lot (last pic) showing them how to make sensational food cooked over flame. They spent the morning getting fires lit, prepping and cooking and at the end a veritable feast with a view! Many of those who came today are keen to come back when we run the next one so do keep a look out for this workshop as it’s definitely one not to be missed!

His soaps are wonderful, have won awards, are made with 100% organic Coconut oil, are vegan, smell amazing and lots of them have funny names…..come and grab some for yourself or for a present!

Hazel Hurdle Course here today and what great hurdles were produced by everyone!
Well done to all who joined this course you did brilliantly. Splitting wood is a skill in itself and hats off especially to Seth (pics 2 & 9) who it seems is a natural!
Great to see someone of this age coming on one of these courses. To be continued with our Young Makers workshops in Spring 2027

Makers Day 2026

Yes I’m a month late after the actual event BUT it was such a lovely day I had to share it still.

Best part was seeing some lovely familiar faces who I had met previously who came to decorate their own candles 🫶🏻 oh and chatting to all the other lovely makers doing their thing.

How lucky am I that this is my job 💓

And of course thank you to @the_coppiced_wood_company Rosie who puts this all on, a mamouth amount of work and brings such a lovely community of makers together.

Supporting rural crafts and all things handmade is so very important and we are passionate about engaging others and keeping these skills alive.
