Makers! Meet Aja - the designer, owner, and artist behind Strand Texture. She is a self-taught #macrame artist and #weaver, specializing in wall hangings made from eco-friendly/cruelty-free fibers.

Also a jewelry maker, painter, and more - a maker through-and-through - Aja finds making things to be both meditative and a meaningful form of expression.

“Give yourself grace when it comes to pushing through a project or permission to step away…”

She goes on to say, “Your emotional state can affect or be affected through the process of creating, and it’s okay to allow some breathing room if you are struggling. Take a walk outside, listen to some music, do something that makes you smile, or cry, and then come back refreshed…”

As creatives, exhaustion is real. We pour our mind, body, heart, and soul into our work. Take time for you!

Hey makers 👋 meet Andrew Phelan (Andy Spoons) - musician and woodworker based in Vancouver, BC.

Andy sells his traditionally crafted spoons, utensils, coffee scoops, and other hand-carved items on Etsy. He solely uses #handtools, just an axe and a knife, in his carving process and finishes the spoons in natural oils.

Makerviews asked Andy what his advice to other makers is, and he shared: “If you have a question about the process, try it yourself first, there is no better teacher than time and experience… Patience and time will always win out over quick tips and tricks!”

Sound advice, there really is no alternative to first-hand practice, continued persistence. Time in your studios and shops, time in your notebooks and sketchpads. Time simply making things!

When asked what advice Amanda has for other makers, she said: “Never feel like you have to stick to just one thing. Explore new ways of making/thinking/seeing, always. Keep your mind fresh and that will reflect in your work.”

Feeling stagnant in your craft? Try something new, even tweaking one aspect of your process 🪵 change it up. The advice applies to life, in general, as well. Keep an open mind, try new ways of talking, thinking, doing - who knows what you may find!

Wow, how time flies! Things have been a little quiet on the feed here, yet new interviews are coming and more maker content is in-the-works!

It’s feels like good timing for a re-introduction post. I’m Scott Mathson, founder and chief everything-er behind @Makerviews. A fellow maker, currently based in #Missoula, MT. Read more in my previous intro post a ways down the feed, or on Makerviews.com!

I also feel like I’ve been holding out on y’all. Introducing my latest project: 1971 Ford F-250. In my own quest for learning new skills and exploring different creative outlets, I found my way to classic auto restoration. I've long-admired classic vehicles and specifically classic trucks.

Nearly 1 year ago today I brought this pickup home. Shoutout to my wife Michelle for carpooling during the first winter storm of the season!

I wanted to do a bit of a photo dump here of some of my favorite shots from the past year.

It's grounding to work on this old #pickup. Whether just tinkering around, or fine-tuning the carburetor for the umpteenth time, it's straightforward and fun to work on. And what a time machine to drive! I get a lot from working on it and figured other #makers would enjoy seeing it!
