Just watched *Kalari Kid* by the Swiss-Indian filmmaker duo @spiritedheroine Maria Bedi and @babbar.sher.satindarsingh.bedi Stinder Singh Bedi, and I am completely in love with this film. ❤️

The characters—Arushi, Milena, Dr. Binny , Arifa and Anshifa , the casting, the way the story unfolds, the flow, the editing and the artistic choices—everything stayed with me. I especially loved the incorporation of Nangeli and the way the film takes us through a journey of women’s injustices, resistance and resilience—from Nangeli’s time to the present.

What I found particularly powerful is how the film opens up an important conversation about women’s safety, dignity and freedom in their own country. This conversation deserves to be taken to a global audience, especially at a time when sexual violence against women in India continues to be a deeply serious concern.

I loved what the film makes Kalari represent from a female perspective, but I am uncertain about its practicality as a pathway to freedom for Indian women.

Maria, I genuinely admire how you have written, shot, edited and produced a story so deeply rooted in Indian realities, while approaching it from a different cultural context—with such sensitivity and artistic conviction.

I am in love with these characters , the effortless subtle music and with the world you have created around them. Special thanks to Manu @endlesspicnic who introduced this special film to me .

I honestly feel *Kalari Kid* is an important film for India and it must be shown in India schools and colleges ❤️🙌🏾

Dalit parents,
we need to rethink:
"You have to do double the work to get half the credit"
" Keep your head down and work till they acknowledge your merit!"
An alive Dalit kid > a dead IITian. Every single time.
Dalit parents — the old rules were never meant to keep your child alive. They were meant to keep them quiet.
Rewrite the script. 🖤

All through my students days, I would hear my mother and grandmother's words about having to work extra hard while keeping one's mouth shut for one's merit to be acknowledged. " If you want to fight back, show it through your marks, your merit, never through your words or actions." This was the constant advice I received and it drove me to the verge of a total breakdown and multiple cycles of depression. So, one must learn that dalit parenting has to be different, we have to equip our kids better to face an extremely cruel unjust world.Teach them to fight back!
