DanceLive 2026 brings Solitude without Loneliness to The Anatomy Rooms on Thursday, 15th October, to launch our 20th Festival.

Malcolm Sutherland's latest work brings an evocative performance in which bodies and characters collapse, separate, and reform in a constant search for meaning, attachment, and understanding. Voices extend from these bodies as they navigate busy streets, seeking comfort in their unique landscapes. This exhausting yet familiar quest for connection unfolds through moments of humour, intimacy, and longing. From karaoke bars to restaurants, this contemporary dance work combines text, movement and situational absurdity.

Solitude without Loneliness invites empathy through the cyclical endurance of the performers, reminding us of the universal desire for union with one another and with ourselves, and of the fragile ways we continually reach towards others.

This performance will be followed by a special sharing from Istanbul's Çıplak Ayaklar Kumpanyası and Portuguese choreographer Francisco Camacho/EIRA, supported by Creative Scotland's Expanded Festivals Fund

Dentro il processo creativo di Yowza.

Il coreografo scozzese Malcolm Sutherland racconta il lavoro sviluppato con gli studenti del terzo anno della Scuola di Danza Contemporanea dell’Accademia Nazionale di Danza. Una creazione ispirata al film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, che intreccia suggestioni cinematografiche, riferimenti all’astrofisica e ricordi personali per dare vita a un universo coreografico in continua trasformazione.

Un percorso costruito giorno dopo giorno insieme agli allievi, attraverso un processo di collaborazione, ricerca e condivisione, accompagnandoli verso il loro debutto professionale e lasciando spazio alla loro sensibilità artistica all’interno del linguaggio del coreografo.

✨It’s International Dance Day today! ✨

Dance is ephemeral -
it exists only for a moment,
and yet it transforms everything it touches.

Through bones, flesh, skin,
it moves into space and resonates within us -
opening worlds beyond the material.

At its core, dance is connection.
Between bodies and space,
between people, disciplines, and worlds.

At Elisabeth Schilling & Company,
we create spaces where art forms meet and move with each other - where dance, music, design and visual art intertwine,and where people are invited not only to watch, but to feel, reflect, and connect.

On this International Dance Day,
we celebrate this ever-changing, living art form -
and the connections it makes possible.

And tomorrow, we step into it -
with the premiere of Florescence in Decay – Reimagined.
