Recently @themjfoundation held our 16th Get Ready Fest®– our sixth in Philadelphia. We first brought the event to the city in 2014, the year I signed with the @philadelphiaeagles. Every time we return, it reminds me why this is one of the most compelling things my foundation does.

As a player, I was trained for the action. The harder adjustment came after football, when I had to make the calls, build teams, and depend on outcomes I couldn’t control.

One idea from @stevemagness Do Hard Things has stayed with me: stress changes with our sense of control.

Transition doesn’t just change what you do. It changes your relationship with control.

So I return to the small things I can control. Every Sunday, I block my schedule. It gives my week structure, protects what matters, and keeps me moving with intention.

Transition will bring stress. That doesn’t mean you’re failing. Control what you can, give yourself time to ride the wave, and let a sound mind lead you forward. by @malcolmjenkins

They say don’t do business with friends…I ignored all of that.

Trust is something you can’t buy.

When athletes and entertainers end up losing the wealth they earned, everyone blames them. Yet almost every athlete and entertainer I know has a financial advisor, agents, and marketing reps.

How do we blame the talent and not the experts?

Why are the institutions consistently falling short?

These questions made me skeptical of the status quo.

I encourage you to choose who you trust wisely. Just because they come from a big agency doesn't mean they have your best interests at heart. The same goes for friends who may only be around for the fun.

The key is to find passionately competent people whose goals in life are aligned with yours. Give them space to build alongside you, not for you, so they see their own future in what’s being built.

After a while you will accumulate a team that you trust, that can execute on your broader, shared mission.

Too many times we see people who never built a team for themselves struggle when the infrastructure of the agents, reps, and the sport are taken away.

Don’t wait.

Start inventorying the talented people you can trust in your network and look for opportunities to activate their talent. by @malcolmjenkins

My entire life I’ve played sports with people who were faster, stronger, and more naturally gifted than me. Talent matters. But talent alone doesn’t keep you moving forward.

@hankwillisthomas and I talked about what it means to be an infinite player: someone who keeps learning, adapting, and finding new fields to play on.

In, what I like to call, the “postseason” of my life, I’m learning how to recognize other infinite players—the athletes, artists, entrepreneurs and community architects who find a way to create possibilities beyond the limits of the rules they’ve inherited. I’m hopeful that this journey helps you find your own potential possibilities and realize the game is yours to shape. by @malcolmjenkins

I keep coming back to James Carse’s book Finite and Infinite Games. Football is a finite game. There is a clock. A score. Somebody wins. Somebody loses. For years, I thought I was learning how to become a better football player.

What I was really learning was how to read a system, put people in position to succeed, and do the unglamorous work that makes everyone else’s success possible.

Then football ended. I was on a new team. One I built under the banner of @malcolminc_ .

No coach calling the play. No scoreboard telling me whether I was winning.

But I recognized the work. It felt like play.

There is no final whistle for what my discipline can become, what my relationships can make possible, what my platform can build, or where my leadership can take me.

A month before What Winners Won’t Tell You was scheduled to go into production, the co-writer I hired turned in the manuscript. It was 80,000 words above the word count the contract called for.

The publisher came back with an ultimatum: get the manuscript down to the required length before it went into production, or the book would be canceled.

I had paid someone to help me write this book. They had a job to do. And they hadn’t done it. I could have pointed to the contract, pointed to what I had paid for, but at the end of the day: if the book got canceled, it would be my book that never existed.

So I went back to what football had prepared me to do. My editor @yahdon and I made a plan.

He and I met every morning at 6 am so I could tell him stories that were supposed to go into the book. He’d get them transcribed, edited into the manuscript, and sent to me by that evening. Then I would have a revision in his inbox by the time of our next 6am meeting. We followed this cadence for 30 straight days.

The result? We got the book into production.

For a long time, I understood that as the story of how I saved my book. Now I understand it as one of the first times I saw what my football career had actually been preparing me for.
It taught me how to receive coaching, adjust under pressure, work within a deadline, execute a game plan, and come back the next morning ready to do it again.

The uniform eventually came off. Those skills came with me.

Growing up, we called my dad’s truck, “The Arbor Bus.”

Every football practice, his pewter Yukon would pull up and a bunch of us from the neighborhood would pile in. Pads, cleats, mud and all.

No one missed a practice.

That sport gave us discipline and a place to be for hours of our day. For some of us, three to be exact, it gave us the introduction to a game that we turned into NFL careers.

At the time, I thought my dad was just giving us a ride. Looking back, I realize he was making sure kids had a way to reach the opportunity in front of them.

That’s what Get Ready Fest® is built to do.

In collaboration with over sixty community partners, @themjfoundation will serve more than eight hundred families, offering everything from a week’s worth of food, health and wellness resources, job placement, free books, on-site haircuts, and more.

The gold jacket is one of the highest honors a football player can receive for a professional football career.

It represents a career a body of work significant enough that the game decides we should be remembered forever.

I find myself equally interested in what happens when the ceremony is over, the cameras are gone, and these men go home and hang their gold jacket up in the closet.

Because the jacket may be hanging up, but everything it represents is still available to the man who earned it.

That is what excited me about seeing another class of my peers receive their gold jackets. I’m celebrating everything they did to earn them. And looking forward to everything they will build after they hang them up. taken in Canton, Ohio by @malcolmjenkins

Congratulations to my good friend @larryfitzgerald on his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Before I ever stepped into an @NFL locker room, I got to train with Larry and see firsthand what it looked like to prepare your body and mind like a professional. That same work ethic and generosity have carried into everything he’s built since.
I’m honored to call him a friend, a mentor, a big brother. He’s a perfect example of what it looks like to use your time in sports to build a bigger life.

Congratulations to my friend and teammate @drewbrees on his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

What always stood out to me about Drew was his process and his precision. I remember one practice thinking I’d finally fooled him, lining up 15 yards from where I was supposed to be. He still read the defense, changed the play, and delivered a completion for a first down like it was nothing.

That same precision shows up in everything he’s building now, from @walkons to @surge_entertainment, creating experiences in the Louisiana market he knows inside and out. Still the same Drew, staying true to what he knows and delivering excellence.

So much deserved. Congrats!
