I’m beaming with pride and joy with the announcement of Arlos Alai!
This is a cookbook club inspired by My Cambodia, and I’m even more excited that this project is with my friend, @malisakuch the designer behind this project.
We connected because we’re children of Khmer immigrants. We’ve shared silences, and we get so excited, loud, and giddy when we talk about our favorite Khmer dishes, like tva kho or prahok ktiss. There are also food memories that we share and learn from, and we’ve realized that coming together is where we feel seen.
To become a member, follow us at @arlos_alai and sign up with link in bio.

I’m so excited to share this space with you all.

Back in April ‘25 @kreung_cambodia & @chaparroach were in the process of fully opening up @bong.nyc but before that they hosted the launch Party for Raingsey, a photobook collaboration between @guarionex_jr and @malisakuch Here are some pics from that wonderful day celebrating the resilience of 🇰🇭 culture!

About Raingsey:

“Raingsey” is the phonetic spelling of the word that means ray of light in Khmer. Malisa & Guarionex’s project highlights the new change and focuses on the new generation in Cambodia decades after the Khmer Rouge.

Raingsey is a dreamlike reality inspired by their time with the youth and their existence alongside the omnipresent, dark past. Their energy, vision, and freedom from the narratives we’d grown up with are a reflection of resilience. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @malisakuch

After last years fundraising and the help of production through @smalleditionsnyc , @malisakuch and I are excited to announce the official release of our first self-published collaboration, Raingsey.

To celebrate this huge milestone we are doing the official release at BONG! @bong.nyc is opening up their first permanent space offering Cambodian food to New York City.

The collaboration between Raingsey and BONG will bring to the community an art installation at the new space with a chance to purchase a book, prints, special dishes and merch.

We will then continue our celebration at @moodringnyc with a line up of our favorite DJs. Setting the tone for the whole night we will be joined by @djhouseplants @cambodionce and @tinasnowle .

We are 50% funded! 12 more days to go!

Here’s a closer look at Raingsey’s cover and some shots from the project. The Khmer lettering is inspired by the fluidity of the green tarp — the symbol of our project. We’re also very excited to feature typography from @ttype.foundry by @thavin_r, a Khmer designer based in Oakland, CA 🙏🏼.

Kickstarters are all or nothing, and we are so incredibly thankful for the 100+ shares, all of the contributions and the kind words we’ve received 🫶🏼. See link in bio for our Kickstarter.

It is official! 5 years in the making and we are finally launching our Kickstarter Campaign for our photobook Raingsey (រង្សី). Link in Bio

The project focuses on Cambodian youth we met mainly in Phnom Penh in 2017 and 2019. Raingsey, meaning “ray of light” in Khmer, reflects how a generation shines despite Cambodia’s omnipresent dark past.

We chose to self-publish this book by way of @SmallEditionsnyc, and we need your help to make this dream come true.

There are various tiers of contributions, ranging from getting a first-edition copy to owning a 20x24in photo printed by Guarionex in the darkroom. Overall, we accept all and any amount of contribution. Even sharing this post would be greatly appreciated.

Raingsey will be our first self-published book. So please consider helping this project launch.

Much love and thank you,
Guarionex and Malisa

I had a dream once where I felt my ancestors flowing through me. Enveloped in intense warmth, there was no sense of place or time. I was them and they were me.

With this year’s @mooncollective and @saturdaysnyc capsule honoring AAPI heritage month, we reflect on all facets of our existence, past, present and future.

Many thanks to @sesameprojects and @saturdaysnyc for a successful launch. Thank you, friends and family for the good company, conversations, missed flights and long walks in the rain. It was good to see everyone ❤️. taken in Saturdays NYC by @malisakuch
