Okay, they’re more like guidelines, not rules. I just try my hardest to consume less, especially plastic items and items from big companies with a track record of taking advantage of workers/environment. I’m by no means perfect. This is just what I TRY to do to lessen my impact as someone who loves shopping and style. 1️⃣ If there is a piece I love from a big brand I always search on Poshmark & Mercari for a used one before buying 2️⃣ I thrift classic pieces like striped sweaters, gingham button ups, basic tees, and simple jewelry. No reason to buy a new version of something I can get used for $6! 3️⃣ If I can afford a handmade piece that I love, I don’t hesitate about buying it. Jewelry is a big one for me to get from artisans & small brands 4️⃣ I buy vintage & other used statement pieces that I know no one else will have. I have gotten SO much use out of this vintage scarf in my hair 5️⃣ Underwear is the only thing I ALWAYS buy new 6️⃣ I’m not perfect about this, but I make an effort to limit my plastic use. I try to avoid polyester, nylon, and other synthetic materials. Now, workout & swimwear is usually synthetic for practical reasons, so I *try* to get recycled materials. 7️⃣ I NEVER buy from Temu & Shein, who pump out millions of intentionally disposable items made of plastic. I don’t break this rule ever. They are an eco disaster Comment ‘Secondhand’ to get my list of online secondhand shopping go-tos by @mallorykatestyle
Hi there! I’m Mallory! I’m the one who was “a pleasure in class, but very talkative.” I’m the person who sits next to the newcomer. I’m the friend you text your outfit photo to for feedback. I’ll be your friend. I’ll be your ally. I’ll alter your wedding dress or suit. I’ll help you curate the wardrobe of your dreams. I’ll also recommend my favorite books (@realitybitesbookclub). In my 17 years on IG & 13 since graduating from @uc_daap, filing my LLC, & getting married I have made some truly cute things. The best & cutest are my two daughters of course, but I have also made countless tops, dresses, pants, skirts, shorts, & wedding dresses for the people who want to dress on the outside like who they are on the inside. I’m a big fan of personal style. After having my second kid my priorities, mental capacity, & time availability changed. Starting in January I announced I was focusing on wedding gown alterations & you showed UP for me! You referred, tagged, & shared the love like crazy. Please keep that up, thanks 😘 Since starting ADHD meds & narrowing my focus, my life & anxiety has exponentially improved. It has been almost 6 months into my “Year of Mallory” & I no longer feel like I’m just barely surviving. Part of that is also thanks to my LO sleeping all night & starting preschool 2 days a week with her sister. Parents really can’t “do it all,” there is always a trade off. This season is feeling really good though. My girls are home 3 weekdays & I work 3 weekdays (one overlapping with the girls & 2 with my mom’s help). I’m enjoying my customers, making art & memories with my family, starting routines I can actually stick to (🙌 medication), curating a closet & home of my dreams, & feeling better than ever. Don’t get me wrong, there are days my 5yo’s tantrums make me feel like an absolute failure, but overall I love this little life. Join me in the process & we’ll curate your wardrobe & self-care routines too @mallorykatestyle by @mallorykatestyle
Stop that! You can’t wear a sheer shirt if you’re a mom! 😒 Well, I break all the (fashion) rules. Plus it was HOT on Tuesday when we went to see Death Cab, & this was certainly breezy. Fun fact about this shirt, I was wearing it when Brian proposed to me in July 2012. It’s Gap from the Gap Clearance Outlet in Hebron, KY. More proof that when you buy fashion that is YOU & you take care of it, you’ll wear it a long time. I repaired a small hole a few years ago & I recently did a double wash of my yellowed whites with a long pre-soak in Oxi Clean White Revive. So many things, including this tank, look good as new. ✨ by @mallorykatestyle
My priority is a healthy and secure life for all kids 🗳️💕 by @mallorykatestyle
Friday started with a dash out of school pickup to make it to our niece’s senior night. She’s in the band, and watching her grow into such a confident, independent young woman these last few years has been🥹 Saturday was officially the worst pumpkin farm. i’ve been there before I had children and I don’t think anything has changed in that time. Plus, they were OUT of apple cider. We started the outing with a porta potty meltdown, pet some animals, fed some goats, and picked the perfect pumpkins. I picked a white one, little one went pie-size, and big kid went giant with a specially chosen long stem. Then of course the giant one’s very long stem snapped off, and there was a lot of sadness about it. She recovered quickly though, which is something we’ve been working on. We made up for a slightly disappointing pumpkin farm (especially food wise) at The Governor in Milford. Every time we go, the food, drinks, atmosphere, and service are incredible. Then came the candy shop, an emergency bathroom sprint back down the street (thank you for the very nice bathroom Governor 🙏), and chocolate all around after. Sunday was early trick-or-treating with friends, up and down a very large hill, in the costumes I thrifted just for fun (see my last reel 😒). Not one thing went perfectly, and it was still one of my favorite weekends. What is your favorite pumpkin farm? 👇 by @mallorykatestyle
I ruined my favorite Halloween tradition: making costumes like my mom did ours. Apparently when you’re a master shopper your kids really do NOT appreciate your master sewist costume making skills. It’s my fault, I secondhand shopped too well. The play costumes I got the kids from @poshmark & Second Chance Outfitters were so great (& opposable) the girls decided to scrap the elaborate handmade costumes we had planned. So let’s look back on Mom made costumes past: which is your favorite? by @mallorykatestyle
Before I had a style, I had a MySpace profile song. 🖤 Last night I went with Brian, his brother, and a bunch of friends to see Brand New, the band we all related to in middle school. We’ve seen them several times, but this was the first in years. It was wall-to-wall elder emo millennials. I ran into childhood neighbors, high school friends I hadn’t seen in almost 20 years, one of my models/friends, and of course half of our Worms friend group was there (thanks for the group text commentary all night). Many years later, the first song started and I still got goosebumps. I couldn’t stop smiling. It brought back bonfires in the woods, music videos from communications class, and choosing my profile song like it was a personality test. They are also one of the first bands Brian and I bonded over. We met because his band played shows with my friends’ band. Emo, pop punk, post-hardcore, and indie music was the foundation of our early dating. Those were the years I found my style, my passions, and myself. Yell-singing, “You’re just jealous cuz we’re young and in love,” at 36 hit very differently than it did at 18, beginning to fall in love with him 🥹 💬 What was your MySpace profile song? Fill your cup. Literally ☕ Sunday night my friend Maria @dirtworm_ceramics set up a cozy lil pop up Sip & Shop in her pottery studio for our bestie group. Candles, spooky season, Hocus Pocus, wine, snackies, Tea, and shelves full of her pottery work. Monday morning I made tea in my sunny kitchen in one of the mugs I brought home, and the vibes of the whole night came with it. This is why I love buying from makers. You’re not just buying a mug. You’re supporting your community, art, and the hands that make it. Handmade items have soul! 💬 Tag the friend you’d bring with you to a sip & shop by @mallorykatestyle

Secondhand set. Firsthand sweat 💪 This sports bra & leggings (with pockets!) set was hung together at @platosclosetandersonoh and I did a little squeal of excitement when I found it! Workout clothes are some of the easiest pieces to buy secondhand because the flexible fit and some of the most expensive to buy new. Another benefit, most activewear is made of plastics like polyester, Lycra, and elastic. If you get it secondhand you’re decreasing virgin plastic creation. Moving my body is one of the ways I fill my cup, spend time with my husband, and improve my adhd symptoms. No all-or-nothing thinking, no perfect streak, just showing up when I can. A cute look makes me just a bit more motivated to head to our basement gym after the kids go to bed. 👇 Tell me: what’s the best thing you’ve found secondhand? I’ll go first: this set. #thriftedstyle #secondhandfashion #slowfashion #momstyle #fillyourcup by @mallorykatestyle
She’s done. She’s elated. She’d glowing. She has so much to do for November weddings & non-time sensitive big projects that have been pushed off till now! Tonight will be very cute though. My final October full bridal party will be wrapped up! This flower girl, daughter of the groom, immediately hit it off with my 5yo. Last fitting was a school night & my daughter was so upset when she left! So we decided to have a lil pizza party play date & garment pickup on a Friday. The bride ofc picked her dress up another time to keep the secret! She is going to be gorgeous! I still have a lot of work on my schedule, but I do also have two break days scheduled for the next few weeks to fill my cup (& sleep deficit) back up after the burn out brink. Having a highly seasonal business is stressful because you know you will be taking on too much work for a time & you will not be sleeping enough. But you also know that you are banking up funds in order to have more flexibility for a lot of other time periods, like summer & the holidays. Since I have now made it through two October’s and one May, focusing mainly on Bridal, I can say it is worth it. I also am very very ready to sleep more and spend more evenings with my husband, two weeks from now. If you have weddings or events you’ll need alterations for coming up, now is the time to dm me! by @mallorykatestyle
