Understanding Matrescence changes everything.

It shifts the way we understand the physical, neurological and hormonal shifts of motherhood.

It sheds a light on the hidden questioning so many new mothers experience.

It breaks the silence around the reality of “having it all”.

It even helps us understand the changes in fathers and carers…

And brings a whole new approach to how we see, value and support ALL parents.

Want to understand all of this, and more?
And share it with your community, workplace… and even the world?

The only ICF-recognised certification based on the life-changing rite of passage of Matrescence is NOW open for enrolment.

An 8 month certification process, this is the very best of Matrescence, motherhood, cultural and societal study for those who want to support parents differently.

AND a deep personal journey. 😍

Enrolments close 6th March.

The world is starting to acknowledge and understand Matrescence.

Knowing what to DO with that understanding - how to translate it into real support, in a clinic, a coaching session, or a workplace - is an entirely different skill set.

This is what Mama Rising does.

Early enrolment is closing on 30th June.
DM for details if you’d like to join our global community of Matrescence leaders in more than 30 countries globally. by @mamarisingmovement

This is so incredible! A South-African journal has published their paper with period stains across the pages to highlight the enormous issue of period poverty.

For the past 4 years, our Global Matrescence Foundation has been supporting our inaugural Matrescence Ambassador in Kenya @motherhood_unscripted every month in outreach work in the poorest communities in and around Nairobi. Each month, we provide in-home support for new mothers through emotional support as well as essential products they often can’t afford themselves - nappies, maternity pads, formula.
Recently, this work has extended to running period awareness workshops for teenage girls, with period products and information.

So incredibly proud that we can support this work. I only wish we could extend it further, and be in the homes and women’s groups around the world.

Many mothers quietly wonder:

Why don’t I feel like myself anymore?

Why do my priorities feel different?

Why am I questioning things that never used to bother me?

Why does motherhood feel bigger than I expected?

If any of these feel familiar, share this with a mother who needs it. 🤍

Without the language of matrescence, many women assume something is wrong with them.

There isn’t.

They’re changing.

Matrescence is the psychological, emotional, social, physical, cultural, and identity transformation that unfolds through motherhood.

Just as adolescence describes the transition from child to adult, matrescence describes the transition into motherhood.

The experience itself isn’t new.

The language is.

And language matters.

Because when women understand matrescence, they often stop judging themselves for changing and begin meeting themselves with more compassion, understanding, and curiosity.

Part of changing the story begins with naming it. by @mamarisingmovement

Knowing the word Matrescence is one thing.

The more that know about it, and feel seen and heard in its description, the more we can change the way mothers feel about themselves.

They can make sense of something that did not make sense before.

But in this knowing, there can also be the shock of realising:

But what can I do about it?

They have the words now, but the systems, support and culture around them is slow to change.

And in that moment, there can be a grieving.

For many of us who have celebrated the momentum around Matrescence awareness and the incredibly important push to make Matrescence Mainstream recently…

There has been a moment of reality-check soon after.
Like this comment from a mama in our community this week.

Yes - there is still so much to do.

As the @peanut campaign has shown so spectacularly - most mothers haven’t heard of this word.
And to be honest, neither have the support systems around them.

The mountain to climb for this is huge… but we’re on our way.
Together, one step at a time.
And with this momentum now, we’re climbing faster.

Systems will change.
The support will come.
But for now, I hope we all feel a part of this systematic shift.

The motherhood connection app @peanut and @tommeetippeenorthamerica are currently campaigning to have the word matrescence officially recognised in the dictionary.

When household names start backing this word, the world starts to notice.

When I first discovered the term matrescence (through the Motherkind podcast with @zoeblaskey )— it completely reframed my experience of motherhood.

I then studied matrescence with @amytaylorkabbaz through the @mamarisingmovement Facilitator training — deepening my understanding of the psychological, social, economic and identity shifts that occur when a woman becomes a mother.

When you have the words to describe an experience - you stop feeling alone, you feel understood & supported.

We can educate workplaces.
We can support families.
We can stop women from internalising what is, in reality, a developmental transition.

Putting matrescence in the dictionary isn’t symbolic.
It gives legitimacy to an experience millions of women are already living.

You can be part of the movement by heading over to the @peanut Instagram page and following the links to sign their petitions. Or comment sign below and I’ll send you the link.

#makematrescencemainstream

Also look out for the screenings of @matrescencedoco which is a documentary all about Matrescence and the findings of some of the worlds experts on the matter. @amytaylorkabbaz @clairetonti beehere_productions

Exciting times for mothers everywhere ❤️

As the momentum builds and builds around this life-changing understanding of Matrescence,

And the incredible campaign to include it in the dictionary, in workplaces, and in birth preparation education begins…

I want to take a moment to honour the women who have bravely fought to be heard and share this word in their own way.

There’s a reason why I called this community of women “Matrescence Activists.”

It first came about in a conversation with @aurelieathanphd about my deep desire to take the stories of women to the world and change policies and understanding around motherhood.

“It’s as if you are a Matrescence activist, Amy”.

And it’s the perfect description for so many of us.

This moment is for ALL of you who have written books, created podcasts, gathered women in your local community halls, and tried to breakdown the bias in workplaces through Matrescence.

A community of activists who have each, in their own individual and powerful way, never given up hope.

Your moment is coming.
Your work has been part of this.
Thank you for believing in this work and being one of the courageous ones to shout its name.

Here are just three of the many contributions of our @mamarisingmovement community that have published books in the last year:

What happens when counsellors, NGO workers, and community leaders come together to explore matrescence — the transformation of becoming a mother?

Real connection.
Real compassion.
Real change. 🌿

I recently had the privilege of facilitating a Redefining Motherhood: Matrescence & Maternal Mental Health workshop in partnership with Ask4Help Fiji, and the responses were powerful.

Here’s what participants said ⬆️

Every conversation like this brings us closer to a world where mothers are seen, heard, and supported — not just expected to cope.

Some days, motherhood feels like I’ve been pulled in two directions. Caught between who I was and who I am becoming.

Hi, I’m Jackie. Certified coach, pre/postnatal yoga teacher, former global manager in tech, and a mama navigating through this journey myself.
I’m also training in @mamarisingmovement

Through 1:1 coaching, I help mothers reclaim their identity, values, and sense of purpose.
This includes embodiment practices, guided meditations, reflective tools, and practical strategies — all designed to help you feel enough as a mother, partner, and person.

✨ Introducing: Voices of the Invisible Mother ✨

At Mama Rising, we believe that too many mothers are left unseen, unheard, and unsupported in a system that was never built to hold them.

We hear their stories every day—stories of frustration, exhaustion, and heartbreak. Stories of brilliant, capable women who feel like they’ve been pushed aside, silenced, or told they’re not enough.

This series is about giving those mothers a voice. It’s about shining a light on their experiences, so we can all start to see the truth: it’s not the mothers who are broken—it’s the system.

Today, we start with Sarah’s story:

"I feel like there is this world of lost women who are pushed out of the workplace or choose to leave because they just say, ‘I can't do this job that's really stressful and manage my family.’ And then you've just got these brilliant women who become lost."

This is why Mama Rising exists—to ensure no mother feels lost, unseen, or unsupported ever again. by @mamarisingmovement

Our latest round of the Mama Rising Certification has just started...

and WOW!

Our new students are already on FIRE! ❤️‍🔥

It's a pretty big first few weeks in our training -
we dive right in!

We look at:
✅️ The lineage of maternal knowledge, and the history and research into Matrescence

✅️ The current experience of mothers around the world, including rates of PND and anxiety, workplace culture and the unconscious bias towards pregnant and new mothers

✅️ The systems and structures that got us to this place, including understanding how patriarchy has isolated motherhood and told us that our success comes from being busy, productive and independent

✅️ How motherhood is what feminism forgot

✅️ And how our own expectations around being a Good Mother and a Successful Woman have played out - and affected us.

And our first coaching call this week showed just how much these early understanding have massively impacted our students already!

Yes... there were tears, anger, grief, resentment.

But most of all, there was a true sense of ACTIVISM.

These women are so committed to making REAL change for the mamas and parents in their parts of the world...

it was truly inspiring to witness.

And we've only just begun! by @mamarisingmovement
