I’ve sat on this for a few days after reading… and I’m here to tell you, if the world was ending and we were cut off from all distractions THIS book would be in the top 5 books I can carry on my back!!!

This in-depth retelling is not just a history of the lynching of Emmitt Till, this is a deep dive into the history of American at its beginnings, the haunting karma of Natives being moves off their reserve, the life surrounding the area where Emmitt spent his last days, and accounts of people retelling their own version of this story.

It goes down to multiple family lines, generations of racism, slavery, Jim Crow and all that encompasses this countries many demons.

The Barn reads as close to a fictional story that is devastatingly true. And the life of not only Emmitt, but many Black lives in the South need to be remembered in such a way.

This was by far my top BEST non-fiction read of 2026!
